Description du produitStephanie Plum, the brassy babe in the powder blue Buick, is back, and she's having a bad hair day -- for the whole month of January. For starters, she's been given the unpopular task of finding Mo Bedemier -- one of the burg's most beloved figures, who unfortunately was caught carrying concealed. Steph's job is to haul his revered ass back to the lock-up and collect her share of the bounty. But Mo seems to have skipped town. His car is gone, his ice cream store is deserted, and his neighbors aren't talking, certainly not to Stephanie. Trenton homicide cop and local hunk Joe Morelli is keeping his distance. The last time he got social with Stephanie he ended up naked in the middle of the street. But Stephanie's not one to say no to a challenge, whether she's after a Mo or a Morelli....With lots of help from former "ho" turned file clerk, Lula, and the occasional assist from the ultimate of bounty hunters, Ranger, Stephanie packs her pepper spray and takes off in pursuit of the elusive purveyor of sweets. Three to Get Deadly is fast, fun, fabulous entertainment from one of the hottest rising stars in the crime-writing world. Présentation de l'éditeurStephanie Plum, the brassy babe in the powder blue Buick is back and she's having a bad hair day -- for the whole month of January. She's been given the unpopular task of finding Mo Bedemier, Trenton's most beloved citizen, arrested for carrying concealed, gone no-show for his court appearance. And to make matters worse, she's got Lula, a former hooker turned file clerk -- now a wannabe bounty hunter -- at her side, sticking like glue. Lula's big and blonde and black and itching to get the chance to lock up a crook in the trunk of her car. Morelli, the New Jersey vice cop with the slow-burning smile that undermines a girl's strongest resolve is being polite. So what does this mean? Has he found a new love? Or is he manipulating Steph, using her in his police investigation, counting on her unmanageable curiosity and competitive Jersey attitude? Once again, the entire One for the Money crew is in action, including Ranger and Grandma Mazur, searching for Mo, tripping down a trail littered with dead drug dealers, leading Stephanie to suspect Mo has traded his ice-cream scoop for a vigilante gun. Cursed with a disastrous new hair color and an increasing sense that it's really time to get a new job, Stephanie spirals and tumbles through Three to Get Deadly with all the wisecracks and pace her fans have come to expect..comAs readers of Janet Evanovich's two previous books about funny, feisty, family-tied bounty hunter Stephanie Plum already know, she operates in "the burg"--a "comfy residential chunk of Trenton, New Jersey, where houses and minds are proud to be narrow and hearts are generously wide open." On this turf, Plum fights for justice and fashion points--this time in pursuit of a beloved neighborhood candystore owner who seems to be moonlighting as an anti-drug vigilante. Evanovich now lives in New Hampshire, but authentic affection for Trenton energizes her prose. Plums in paperback include One for the Money and Two for the Dough. From Publishers WeeklyTrenton, N.J., bounty hunter and former lingerie buyer Stephanie Plum (last seen in Two for the Dough) becomes persona non grata when she tracks down a neighborhood saint who has failed to show up for his court appearance. No one wants to help Stephanie, who works for her bail-bondsman cousin, Vinnie. While questioning admirers of the man nicknamed Uncle Mo, Stephanie is attacked and knocked out as she cases his candy store. She comes to next to the dead body of her attacker, who turns out to be a well-known drug dealer. Suddenly, she can't avoid stumbling across the bodies of dead drug dealers: one in a dumpster, one in a closet and four in the candy store basement. Stephanie suspects that mild-mannered Mo has become a vigilante and is cleaning up the streets in a one-man killing spree. But when she's repeatedly threatened by men wearing ski masks, she wonders if Mo has company and just might be in over his head. Despite her new clownish orange hair job, Stephanie muddles through another case full of snappy one-liners as well as corpses. By turns buttressed and hobbled by her charmingly clueless family and various cohorts (including streetwise co-worker Lulu, detective and heartthrob Morelli and professional bounty hunter Ranger), the redoubtable Stephanie is a character crying out for a screen debut. • Fictional Reality and the Portrayal of Justice in Modern Sociology and Contemporary Novels
Free Inquiry In Creative Sociology Volume 34 NO.2 November 2006 133 FICTIONAL REALITY AND THE PORTRAYAL OF JUSTICE IN MODERN SOCIOLOGY AND CONTEMPORARY NOVELS Ralph G. O'Sullivan, Chillicothe, IL ABSTRACT Social justice is a popular subject of discussion in sociology, politics, jurisprudence, as well as popular novels. The outcomes of its proceedings are equally curious because that which is "'just" depends upon such variables as defining the direction that justice needs to take; allocating authority to enforce it; and public reaction to its consequences. This article represents a layered investigative journey into the portrayal of justice in nine popular series novels because its fictional enactment represents the way that the population would like to see it enforced, but does not. Since the body of the material reviewed here are works of fiction which incorporate known data a new expression is offered. Fictional reality refers to the ways in which novelists weave fair knowledge about modern justice into stories which please their audiences, and this article explores the means by which that melding occurs. Women Sleuths Bibliography Edition 20 January 2020 Brown Deer Public Library 5600 W. Bradley Road Brown Deer, WI 53223 1 MMMysteryMystery Murder Investigation Detective Evidence ClueClue…… She may be a police officer, a private detective, an office worker, a professor, an attorney, a nun, or even a librarian, but the woman sleuth is always tenacious and self-reliant. She may occasionally use her physical strength or a weapon in the course of her crime solving; more often, though, she uses her intelligence, her expertise in a specific area, and her understanding of human nature to reach a solution. The Women Sleuths Bibliography was first compiled by Linda Paulaskas, former South Milwaukee Library Director, and Cathy Morris-Nelson, former Brown Deer Library Director. Kelley Hinton, Reference Librarian at the Brown Deer Library, continued to revise and update the bibliography through the 13th Edition. Since then, updates have been made by Brown Deer Library volunteer and mystery enthusiast Paula Reiter. This is not a comprehensive bibliography, but rather a compilation of current series, which feature a woman sleuth. Most of the titles in this bibliography can be found arranged alphabetically by author at the Brown Deer Public Library. ___ We have added lines in front of each title, so you might keep track of the books and authors you read. We have also included author website addresses and unique features found on the sites. This symbol indicates a series new to the twentieth edition. • Taltp-Spring-2008-American-Romance
Teaching American Literature: A Journal of Theory and Practice Special Issue Spring/Summer 2008 Volume 2 Issue 2/3 Suzanne Brockmann (Anne Brock) (5 June 1960- Suzanne Brockmann, New York Times best-selling and RITA-award-winning author, pioneered and popularized military romances. Her well-researched, tightly-plotted, highly emotional, action-packed novels with their socially- and politically-pertinent messages have firmly entrenched the romance genre in the previously male-dominated world of the military thriller and expanded the reach and relevance of the romance genre far beyond its stereotypical boundaries. The Navy SEAL heroes of her Tall, Dark and Dangerous series published under the Silhouette Intimate Moments imprint and the heroes and even occasionally the heroines of her best-selling, mainstream Troubleshooter series who work for various military and counter-terrorism agencies have set the standards for military characters in the romance genre. In these two series, Brockmann combines romance, action, adventure, and mystery with frank, realistic examinations of contemporary issues such as terrorism, sexism, racial profiling, interracial relationships, divorce, rape, and homosexuality. Brockmann’s strong, emotional, and realistic heroes, her prolonged story arcs in which the heroes and heroines of future books are not only introduced but start their relationships with each other books before their own, and her innovative interactions with her readers, have made her a reader favorite. Suzanne was born in Englewood, New Jersey on 6 May, 1960 to Frederick J. Brockmann, a teacher and public education administrator, and Elise-Marie “Lee” Schriever Brockmann, an English teacher. Suzanne and her family, including one older sister, Carolee, born 28 January, 1958, lived in Pearl River, N.Y., Guilford, Conn., and Farmingdale, N.Y., following Fred Brockmann’s career as a Superintendent of Schools.
