Download Run The Jewels RTJ2. RTJ2 , the second album from the Killer Mike/El-P rap juggernaut Run The Jewels, was not supposed to come out until Monday. But El suddenly dropped the free-download album, a legitimate contender for Album Of The Year, two hours ago, in the middle of the fucking effing night. (Maybe he wanted to make sure you’d get to hear it before Ebola overtakes New York?) The album pushes what these two were doing on their amazing self-titled debut even further, and it will absolutely hurt your brain from the opening seconds on. It is just a beast of a thing. We’ve posted the early songs “Blockbuster Night Part 1,” “Oh My Darling Don’t Cry,” and the Zack De La Rocha collab “Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck).” And right now, you can, and absolutely should, download the whole thing right here. Just call in sick to work tomorrow and just let this thing rip your whole shit up completely. You deserve it. Let’s talk about this thing in the comments section — and while you’re at it, read our new Run The Jewels cover story, too. Run the Jewels release fourth album early as a free download. The rap duo suggests fans make a donation to the National Lawyers Guild Mass Defense Fund. Run the Jewels released their fourth album two days earlier than expected. The rap duo, which is compromised of Killer Mike and El-P, made 'RTJ4' available to download for free on their website. Run the Jewels' long-awaited fourth album arrived earlier than expected. "RTJ4" had been set to drop June 5, but the rap duo surprised fans and released their new album Wednesday, a few days early. "RTJ4," an 11-song collection, arrives at a time when protests against police brutality and systemic racism are happening across the country. “F**k it, why wait. The world is infested with bulls**t, so here’s something raw to listen to while you deal with it all," said the rap duo, which is compromised of Killer Mike and El-P. "We hope it brings you some joy. Stay safe and hopeful out there. And thank you for giving 2 friends the chance to be heard and do what they love. With sincere love and gratitude, Jaime + Mike.” MORE: Michael B. Jordan's 'Just Mercy' is free to rent through June in effort to educate viewers | Thinking of binging The West Wing? Try these three episodes first. Run The Jewels 4 is out now - FREE on our website and avail everywhere you listen to music. The album f eatures appearances from Mavis Staples, 2 Chainz, Josh Homme, Pharrell and more. It's available on streaming platforms and to download for free on their website. While free to download, fans have the option to donate to the National Guild Lawyers Mass Defense Fund, which provides legal support for political activists, protestors and movements for social change. The duo's website also provides direct links to make donations to Black Lives Matter, The Bail Project, Color of Change and Committee to Protect Journalists, among others. On Wednesday night, El-P shared that fans had given more than $10,000 in the first 45 minutes of their fourth album's release to the National Guild Lawyers Mass Defense Fund. By the end of the day, he gave an update that almost $100,000 had been donated. Also earlier this week, Killer Mike gave an emotional speech in Atlanta at the mayor’s press conference. He also appeared on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on Monday and discussed how white people can become better allies and combat racism. “Get your butt down there, and help those organizations in the physical," he said. "But, what I need white America to do beyond right now is understand that right now is always . It isn’t just helping in the now. It is being a part of fixing it always.” He then encouraged everyone to educate themselves on racism and recommended everyone watch videos of Jane Elliot, an anti-racist educator, on YouTube. He cites a video of the activist giving a talk about racism. She asks the white people in the room to stand if they would like to be treated in the same way that black people are treated in this country. When no one stands, Elliot points out, "That says very plainly that you know what's happening. You know you don't want it for you. I wanna know why you're so willing to accept it or to allow it to happen to others." • The Life & Rhymes of Jay-Z, an Historical Biography
ABSTRACT Title of Dissertation: THE LIFE & RHYMES OF JAY-Z, AN HISTORICAL BIOGRAPHY: 1969-2004 Omékongo Dibinga, Doctor of Philosophy, 2015 Dissertation directed by: Dr. Barbara Finkelstein, Professor Emerita, University of Maryland College of Education. Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership. The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the life and ideas of Jay-Z. It is an effort to illuminate the ways in which he managed the vicissitudes of life as they were inscribed in the political, economic cultural, social contexts and message systems of the worlds which he inhabited: the social ideas of class struggle, the fact of black youth disempowerment, educational disenfranchisement, entrepreneurial possibility, and the struggle of families to buffer their children from the horrors of life on the streets. Jay-Z was born into a society in flux in 1969. By the time Jay-Z reached his 20s, he saw the art form he came to love at the age of 9—hip hop— become a vehicle for upward mobility and the acquisition of great wealth through the sale of multiplatinum albums, massive record deal signings, and the omnipresence of hip-hop culture on radio and television. In short, Jay-Z lived at a time where, if he could survive his turbulent environment, he could take advantage of new terrains of possibility. This dissertation seeks to shed light on the life and development of Jay-Z during a time of great challenge and change in America and beyond. THE LIFE & RHYMES OF JAY-Z, AN HISTORICAL BIOGRAPHY: 1969-2004 An historical biography: 1969-2004 by Omékongo Dibinga Dissertation submitted to the Faculty of the Graduate School of the University of Maryland, College Park, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy 2015 Advisory Committee: Professor Barbara Finkelstein, Chair Professor Steve Klees Professor Robert Croninger Professor Derrick Alridge Professor Hoda Mahmoudi © Copyright by Omékongo Dibinga 2015 Acknowledgments I would first like to thank God for making life possible and bringing me to this point in my life.

  • Indie Mixtape HQ Is the Third 2011
:: View email as a web page :: In conversation, Phoebe Bridgers speaks in a deadpan SoCal accent and punctuates her blunt and hilarious observations with generous amounts of curse words. She sounds, in other words, utterly unlike her music, which tends to be quiet, contemplative, and gorgeous. Because of her gently murmuring vocal style — "I don’t sing with a lot of emotion, it’s almost an apathetic singing voice," she confesses — Bridgers tends to be cast as yet another sad-sack singer-songwriter out to jerk every last one of your tears. It’s precisely that image that made her 2017 debut Stranger In The Alps a slow-burn sensation, setting in motion a promising career that was further bolstered by her participation in two indie supergroups: Boygenius (with Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker) and Better Oblivion Community Center (with Conor Oberst). On her latest album, Punisher, due out on Friday, Bridgers goes deeper and weirder, writing with uncommon insight about the millennial condition. Check out Uproxx’s interview with her here. -- Steven Hyden, Uproxx Cultural Critic and author of This Isn't Happening: Radiohead's "Kid A" And The Beginning Of The 21st Century OPENING TRACKS HAIM This infectious and frequently canny pop-rock trio is known for making fun sing-along jams with splashy choruses that evoke the glory years of FM and Top 40 radio. They also have a good sense of humor, as evidenced by the title of their forthcoming LP due next week, Women In Music Pt. III. LISTEN MICHAEL STIPE KHRUANGBIN The venerable R.E.M.

Furthermore, Lemonade centers black life while presenting mainstream audiences with poetry and avant-garde imagery that challenge dominant views of black womanhood. Using theorists bell hooks, Stuart Hall, Patricia Hill- Collins and Audre Lorde, among others, I argue that Beyoncé’s work challenges the understanding of artistic production while simultaneously fitting within a long tradition of black feminist cultural production.
