Welcome to world of VISIONS ACADEMY! 1 Kaleidoscope Adventures | 800-774-7337 www.kaleidoscopeadventures.com | [email protected] Disney Dance is an opportunity to achieve performance excellence in the world’s most magical setting. High energy and high excitement are in store in this specialised tour! With unparalleled performance venues and famed white-glove service, Disney Dance will thrill your students by coupling the study of advanced learning techniques with plenty of fun in the sun! During your tour, you’ll enjoy the flexibility to arrive and depart any of the theme parks or evening activities at your leisure. With continual shuttle service aboard Disney’s own transportation system, your Visions Academy tour allows for five days of indefinite “park hopping” coupled with easy transportation to make sure that you have just the right amount of time for all the activities you desire! Day 1 Dinner Travel to Florida arriving in Orlando in the late afternoon or early evening. After boarding your Disney Magic Express motorcoach your school will be swiftly transferred to your hotel located at Walt Disney World and a short 30-minute drive from the airport. Dependent upon time allowed, your school will reconvene for dinner later in the evening. Afterwards, we can retire to our rooms or take advantage of the hotel amenities! Orlando, Florida – America's family fun capital, Orlando is home to Walt Disney World, Sea World and other thrilling mega-theme parks, including Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios. Of course, there's much more going on in this fun-in-the-sun city than just Mickey and Goofy and the gang. Once you've had the chance to experience the world-famous theme parks, there are fabulous area attractions including live dinner shows, interactive science museums, outdoor nature centres and much more! With its bombast, over-the-top showmanship, and extravagant deployment of dreams as daily entertainment, Orlando may be the most quintessentially American city in America. It's also the most popular family destination on earth; almost 50 million people a year flood its theme parks and hotels in an endless pursuit of childhood fantasy. Though the vast majority orbits the big-ticket amusements furnished by Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Florida, and SeaWorld, there’s also a lesser-known, surprisingly sophisticated city rooted in ‘Old Florida Values’ for those who seek it out. Hotel Accommodation - The All Star Music Resort - The All Star Music Resort is a themed hotel with great themes such as Country, Broadway, Jazz, Rock and Calypso! Oversized pop icons are found everywhere. In the Country section you'll find a pair of size 270 Cowboy Boots! Over at the Jazz section, a giant drum set welcomes you to the "Jazz Inn." The Calypso section has conga-drum covered stairwells. You pass under a colourful Xylophone "bridge" as you enter this area where a set of three story tall Maracas greet you! Walk along the "Great White Way" in the Broadway section where it's no surprise that "Beauty and the Beast" is on the marquee. Top Hats and Canes will set your feet to tapping! You'll be rockin' at the "Rock Inn." This section features a huge juke box. Electric guitars and microphones decorate the buildings. 2 Kaleidoscope Adventures | 800-774-7337 www.kaleidoscopeadventures.com | [email protected] Don’t forget to take a refreshing plunge in the guitar and grand-piano shaped swimming pools! Meals may be taken on-site in the fantastic Intermission food court, with several varieties of food to select from daily, or at various restaurants and cafes throughout the Disney theme parks. http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/all-star-music-resort Day 2 Breakfast, Dinner After breakfast at our hotel, we’ll get prepared to embark on our first Master Class – Disney Dancin’! • Winter 2015 • Volume24 • Number4
Winter 2015 • Volume24 • Number4 If Disney Files Magazine was a grocery store tabloid, the headline on this edition’s cover may read: Giant Reptile to Terrorize China! Of course, we’d never resort to such sensationalism, even if we are ridiculously excited about the imposing star of the Roaring Rapids attraction in the works for Shanghai Disneyland (pages 3-8). We take ourselves far too seriously for such nonsense. Wait a minute. What am I saying? This isn’t exactly a medical journal, and anyone who’s ever read the fine print at the bottom of this page knows that, if there’s one thing we embrace in theDisney Files newsroom, it’s nonsense! So at the risk of ending our pursuit of a Pulitzer (close as we were), I introduce this issue with a series of headlines crafted with all the journalistic integrity of rags reporting the births of alien babies, celebrity babies…and alien-celebrity babies. Who wore it best? Disney’s Beach Club Villas vs. the Brady family! (Page 13) Evil empire mounting Disney Parks takeover! (Pages 19-20) Prince Harry sending soldiers into Walt Disney World battle! (Page 21) An Affleck faces peril at sea! (Page 24) Mickey sells Pluto on the street! (Page 27) Underage driver goes for joy ride…doesn’t wear seatbelt! (Page 30) Somewhere in Oregon, my journalism professors weep. All of us at Disney Vacation Club wish you a happy holiday season and a “sensational” new year. Welcome home, Ryan March Disney Files Editor Illustration by Keelan Parham VOL. 24 NO.

For more information, please contact [email protected]. FUTURE WORLD(S): A Critique of Disney's EPCOT and Creating a Futuristic Curriculum by ALAN BOWERS (Under the Direction of Daniel Chapman) ABSTRACT In my dissertation inquiry, I explore the need for utopian based curriculum which was inspired by Walt Disney’s EPCOT Center. Theoretically building upon such works regarding utopian visons (Bregman, 2017, e.g., Claeys 2011;) and Disney studies (Garlen and Sandlin, 2016; Fjellman, 1992), this work combines historiography and speculative essays as its methodologies. In addition, this project explores how schools must do the hard work of working toward building a better future (Chomsky and Foucault, 1971). Through tracing the evolution of EPCOT as an idea for a community that would “always be in the state of becoming” to EPCOT Center as an inspirational theme park, this work contends that those ideas contain possibilities for how to interject utopian thought in schooling.
