These are the statues of seven elephants of two feet height and one with one foot. These statues are made with wood and covered with gold plate. Total fifty eight kilo gold is being used to create these eight idols. It is believed that the King of Travancore has made these idols to present at the Vaikom Temple and it was being carried out to Vaikom from Thiruvananthapuram by water. When it reached near Ettumanoor, the boat got struck on the sand bund in the river and did not move further even after a lot of hard work by a group of people. Then an astrologer came there and told them that, Ettumanoorappan, the presiding deity of Ettumanoor temple got attracted with these statues and will not part with it. Hearing this King donated those statues to Ettumanoor. The Aarattu Festival is conducted to celebrate the divine presence of the deity. About 2000 Local RELEVANCE- NO. Ltr No.H-1235/2017/KSBSG dated 11-05-2017 of state secretary Kerala state Bharat Scouts and Guides As per reference cited, Government has accorded sanction to start Scouts and Guides unit in Government and Aided Higher Secondary Schools.Accordingly387Schools were provisionally selected for starting Scouts / Guides, out of which 243 schools for both scouts and guides, 74 schools for scouts units and 70 schools for guides units. Units will be sanctioned to schools only after the successful completion of the Basic Training for Scout Master/Guide Captain by the teacher. The Third batch of training is scheduled to conduct from 29th May to 04th June 2017 at State Training Centre, Kerala State Bharat Scouts and Guides, Palode, Thiruvananthapuram for 81 Guide Captains, at Regional Training Centre Nadavathur Kozhikode for 80 Scout Masters A teacher selected as Scout Master and a lady teacher selected as Guide Captain of the selected schools (list attached) should attend the seven days residential programme. The selected teacher should not be in charge of Career Guidance unit, Souhrida Club, NCC, NSS and SPC. Scout Masters/Guide Captains should be in correct and complete uniform as given below: Shirt : A steel grey shirt with two patch pockets with shoulder straps with half sleeves Pants : Navy Blue Pants with loop at 2 inches Head Dress : Dark blue baret cap with official cap badge.Black Socks and Black Shoes with lace may be worn.

    The Continuing Decline of Hindus in Kerala

    The continuing decline of Hindus in Kerala Kerala—like Assam, West Bengal, Purnia and Santhal Pargana region of Bihar and Jharkhand, parts of Western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Mewat of Haryana and Rajasthan, and many of the States in the northeast—has seen a drastic change in its religious demography in the Census period, beginning from 1901. The share of Indian Religionists in Kerala, who are almost all Hindus, has declined from nearly 69 percent in 1901 to 55 percent in 2011, marking a loss of 14 percentage points in 11 decades. Unlike in the other regions mentioned above, in Kerala, both Christians and Muslims have considerable presence and both have gained in their share in this period. Of the loss of 14 percentage points suffered by the Indian Religionists, 9.6 percentage points have accrued to the Muslims and 4.3 to the Christians. Christians had in fact gained 7 percentage points between 1901 and 1961; after that they have lost about 3 percentage points, with the rapid rise in the share of Muslims in the recent decades. This large rise in share of Muslims has taken place even though they are not behind others in literacy, urbanisation or even prosperity. Notwithstanding the fact that they equal others in these parameters, and their absolute rate of growth is fairly low, the gap between their growth and that of others remains very wide. It is wider than, say, in Haryana, where growth rates are high and literacy levels are low. Kerala, thus, proves that imbalance in growth of different communities does not disappear with rising literacy and lowering growth rates, as is fondly believed by many.
