What is La Tomatina?

La Tomatina is a festival celebrated in Buñol on the last Wednesday of August every year, where participants engage in a "tomato fight" for fun. The event usually starts at 11:00 am and the fight lasts for exactly one hour.

What are the rules during the fight?

To keep the Tomatina Festival fun and prevent injuries, you are expected to comply with the following rules:

• Do not bring bottles or hard objects as they can cause accidents and hurt other participants • Do not rip other people's T−shirts • You must squash the tomatoes before throwing them as this reduces the impact • Ensure you keep a safe distance from the trucks • As soon as you hear the second shot, you must stop throwing tomatoes

What useful tips can you advice for a fun and memorable experience?

• Wear closed shoes that you don't mind throwing away afterwards. If you wear flip−flops, you may get hurt, or you could lose them easily during the battle • Wear old clothes, or clothes that you aren't planning to wear again. They will most likely end up damaged from being ripped or incredibly dirty • You may find goggles useful. However, it is safer if you just ensure that you always have something clean to wipe your eyes with. The best thing is if you tuck your T−Shirt into your shorts to keep the bottom part of your T−shirt clean and dry • If you are planning to take pictures, bring a waterproof camera! • Do not miss the Palojabón a soap−covered pole with a Spanish ham at the top: whoever can climb the pole and get the ham can keep it! • Stay safe and enjoy the festivities as much possible

What is the weather like in Valencia during this season?

Valencia has a Subtropical climate of the border Mediterranean climate and Semi−arid climate, with very mild winters and long warm to hot summers. In the warmest month − August − the temperature during the day typically ranges from 28›4 °C or 823 °F, and 23 °C or 73 °F at night. The average sea temperature is 26 °C or 79 °F.

What clothing do you recommend in this trip?

Since the festival falls during the end of August, you may still experience extreme hot weather. We suggest that you pack light, loose clothing and do not forget your bathing suits.

When does the tour start?

The tour starts on August 28, 2012 with an Orientation Walking Tour and dinner in Valencia.
