Mit einem Angebot bestimmen Fluggäste, wie viel sie für ein Upgrade bezahlen möchten.
Ab 72 Stunden vor Abflug werden alle Angebote für den jeweiligen Flug geprüft und ausgewählt. Die Fluggäste erhalten eine Benachrichtigung, ob sie den Zuschlag erhalten und in den Genuss aller Business Class Annehmlichkeiten kommen.
Um mitbieten zu können, muss das Economy Class Ticket bis spätestens drei Tage vor Abflug ausgestellt sein.
Smart Upgrade wird seit Juli 2014 auf allen Austrian Linienflügen angeboten.

Travelers can now use the United app on iOS iPhone, iPad or Android to scan their passport for international itinerary check-in. . Convenient way to provide passport information during the 24-hour check-in window, eliminating the requirement to visit an airport kiosk or service desk . MileagePlus members who have previously scanned their passport at a kiosk will be asked to verify their stored passport data and will not need to scan their passport further, unless a new passport needs to be added or information updated
Once scanned using the app, passports will be saved to a travelers MileagePlus profiles for future use.
