WHAT’S NEWS 2011 Orange County Junior All FROM THE DESK OF THE COMMISSIONER

WE WILL ALWAYS WEEK 1 – SEPTEMBER 10, 2011

REMEMBER… Before you read this week’s "WHAT’S NEWS,” I feel the need to say and remember......

"For the husband who told his wife, ‘I love you,’ one last time before his plane went down in a field; for the wife who stopped in the stairs to call her husband to say, ‘I will love you forever’… for the mothers and fathers who kissed their kids goodbye the morning they died; for the Policemen who rushed in with the Firemen to help get others out only to die themselves; for the Soldiers who fought back and lost their lives. Today. Tomorrow. Ten years from now, We Will Remember."

I can remember, like all of us, on that ugly and chaotic day, but the days that followed were not any better. I had to make a decision, whether or not to play football on that next Saturday? And my decision was yes, one that I still stand behind. I believe that our children learn more from action than words and 10 years ago when they were hearing on TV of the ugly events of that week but then they saw the actions of our OCJAAF family that following football Saturday they did learn American values on a field that they understood, a field they play on, a field they cheer on, a field they rejoice on and a field they live on, is their place and a safe place. Now this was done with the people who love them and they did not see it on TV they lived it.

Now, on to this week on the field…. I saw the hard work of Chapter Presidents, Staff and Coaches put into the pre-season is paying off! Our kids were all smiles, some timid and some aggressive, but happy to be on the field. Suzy and I were in Cerritos on the side line of our grandson's game, Clinic Rowland Raiders; they were playing the Cerritos Steelers. Now the Raiders were losing by a lot to nothing it was late in the fourth quarter as you can imagine the moral on the sideline was not very high. Then Suzy and I saw number 24 talking to his teammates saying, "why such a long face, it's only a game, aren't you having fun, that's all that matters." WOW. What has this coaching staff taught their kids? Looks like a lot more than football I think they have showed them how to have fun...... "Great Job Coach Todd Ball". Then at the end of the day I was at St. Paul High School to watch the Midget Woodcrest Generals vs. Santa Fe Springs Ravens; again a game where a team was losing a lot to nothing but the losing team (Ravens) had great attitudes and were only talking about the next game and how they could improve ...... "Great Job Coach Kevin Ramsey."

OCJAAF COMMISSIONERS’ REPORT, WHAT’S NEWS, WEEK #1, SEPT-10-2011 PAGE 1 OF 9

This is just a small example of what “positive influence” and “positive action” shown to our youth from the young ones (Clinic) to the older ones (Midgets)---the kids’ age does not matter but the Coaches actions and demeanor does!...... KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK OCJAAF!!!!

I love our OCJAAF family and I love the people who believe in what I preach and what I believe in---"The future is our youth." The unsung heroes of the US are our soldiers and the unsung heroes of our youth are "Our COACHES"...... And this is what......

"WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER"

Thank You! Bob Barna Commissioner

HOPE IS THE BELIEF IN WHAT IS POSSIBLE AND THE EXPECTATION OF Kind THINGS TO COME. We need to instill in our youth that HOPE is what will Efforts keep them moving in a forward direction. HOPE breeds character and this Equal character will breed HOPE. In the end this HOPE will not disappoint you Pride but will keep you strong. Use HOPE and imagination as weapons of survival and progress. We can relate to our real life in football and cheer Helping because of the ups and downs that come with each. In life you have family Other and friends that help you along the way. In football you have a bigger family, a team, a family structure, a place for yourself in the whole scheme eople P of things, a reason to belong. TOUCHDOWN! HIGH FIVE!!!... We appreciate the hard work and dedication of all our volunteers who make OCJAAF a leading youth organization. There are some instances where we would like to give a “shout out” to some of you for extraordinary efforts and sportsmanship and we call this…HIGH FIVE! Thank you for this…

1. I would like to give you some “good news” about one of our OCJAAF- Corona Clinic Blue Football Player’s, TYSON McDONALD…In the off season he ran with Speed City Track Club and won 3 Gold Medal at this year’s Junior Olympic in Wichita, Kansas. Tyson won the Bantam Boys 9 & 10 year division 100 Meters National Championship with a 12.76. The fastest time in United States this year. The record is 12.73, and won 2 other Gold medal in 4/100 and relay set a new National Record in 4/400 with 4:09. All the times are on USTF Junior Olympic to verify everything including the 4/400 National Record. 2. I wanted to give Lora Gonzalez a big high five at South Gate along with her staff as the hospitality was the best all around. Everything went so smoothly and when one of the players from South Bay for the Midget game had a problem with his helmet at weigh-ins (missing a screw), Lora’s staff stepped in and fixed that helmet so that Midget Player could play without hesitation. I want to thank and give John Aston and Crystal DeLeon of South Gate a big high five for making that happen. Again, Lora thank you and your staff again for making my day way more enjoyable all around...... From Coleen Ludvigson, Conference Player Agent. 3. Great Week One! I want to wish the Huntington Beach PEE WEE player that got hurt towards the end of the game a speedy recovery! I want to thank Greg Dixon at Carson for the great hospitality and also congratulations on your new field. Looks great! I also wanted to thank all of OCJAAF for a great week 1 and good Luck to all this season! From, Robert Frutos, Bellflower Broncos. 4. FIELDS VISITED THIS WEEK… The first Saturday of OCJAAF games! Started out to go to CORONA, but got a phone call that Orange’ field- --Hart Park---was closed because of the rain, so I needed to move some games and make phone calls.. FULLERTON, DOWNEY, AND NEWPORT MESA all stepped up and added a 3pm game to their field and pulled OCJAAF and Orange out of a big jam ‘THANK YOU!’ to all.....now that this was done Suzy and I were off to .....NEWPORT MESA, and watched our youngest grandson in his very first football game. Great game, great field and great people except no "DIET PEACH ICE TEA SNAPPLE" next off to .....CERRITOS...... At Gahr High School, Money I love your set up and crowd control and of course your wife made sure I had plenty of "DIET PEACH ICE TEA SNAPPLE!" Next made a stop in ROWLAND HEIGHTS, then off to ....CORONA...... What a great set up! It was their Opening Day and every team had a food both and fun things for kids to see and do, the field is in a city park and I just loved the atmosphere. Vee was not there but Melonie was very hospitable, now there wasn't any beverage for me they had some dumb excuse that Vee drank them because she thought I was not coming but Luis McDonald came to my rescue and went to the store and surprised me with not one but two "DIET PEACH ICE TEA SNAPPLE!"...... Now off to .....MISSION VIEJO.... Good game, Junior everything looked great but I saw no one manning the gates, other than that and the fact that you did not have any "DIET PEACH ICE TEA SNAPPLE" things looked good! One more thing Junior…if a team buys food from you, you should let them eat it in the stands while they watch the next game. Just say'n.....now off to.....SANTA FE SPRINGS at St. Paul High School I wanted to see a Midget game. It was a good game a little lopsided but still a good game. What I did love was the morale on the field from both sides and the stadium is great...good job Wayne but just like Newport Mesa and Mission Viejo, you had no "DIET PEACH ICE TEA SNAPPLE!"...... Now off to my next stop, HOME…See you on the field next week!

Another great Saturday of Iced Diet Peach Tea Snapple! THANKS EVERYONE!
