2020 GREAT SOUTHERN FESTIVAL OF FOOTBALL 2020 GREAT SOUTHERN FESTIVAL OF FOOTBALL A message from James Curtis, Football West CEO Welcome to the fourth annual Football West Regional Festival of Football and our first in Albany. We are delighted to be in the Great Southern Region and it is especially pleasing following the false start we had earlier this year. The Football West team came to Albany in March to announce that the Festival would be taking place in early May. Then, of course, circumstances out of everybody’s control intervened and we were forced to postpone the event. But Football West was always determined that the show would go on James Curtis and so it has transpired, albeit three months late. Chief Executive Officer, What we did take away from our visit earlier this year was the obvious Football West passion for football in Albany, from the Tuesday night seven-a-side casuals to the boys and girls in our Hyundai Talent Support Program. It is also a pleasure to bring some of the top metro talent to the south coast. The Men’s NPL game will be between Sorrento and Perth Glory’s NPL side, many of whom will be looking to force their way into A-League reckoning in the future. The Women’s NPL fixture sees Perth SC take on the youngsters from the Football West Hyundai NTC side, which contains a number of Junior and Young Matildas. Other activities during the week-long activities include school visits, coaching clinics and referee courses. Finally, none of this would be possible without the support of a number of bodies, especially the City of Albany and its CEO Andrew Sharpe, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the Albany Junior Soccer Association, Great Southern Soccer Association and our official partners including Gold Fields and Healthway. Thanks to everybody who has helped us put on this week’s Regional Festival of Football and enjoy the action. A message from Mayor Dennis Wellington, City of Albany The Albany community are passionate about sport, the great outdoors and maintaining an active lifestyle where team sports play a huge part in the lives of our residents. Football is a growing sport in the Great Southern with vast potential for growth in a grassroots capacity which is encouraged and supported by bringing events like the Festival of Football to the region. We are excited to welcome Football West to Albany in August and look forward to experiencing the talent and skills of these players firsthand. Dennis Wellington Mayor of Albany 2 A message from Gold Fields Gold Fields has been the proud sponsor of the Football West State Teams since 2018 and the Football West Goldfields regional sponsor since 2019. Our support for Football West provides Gold Fields with an ideal opportunity to invest in the communities in which we operate. Additionally, it provides a platform to showcase the many diverse opportunities that the mining sector has to offer. Gold Fields, which is part of a global company, has been operating in Western Australia since 2001 and has four gold mines spread across the Goldfields region. The company employs a workforce that includes 1,657 employees and 1,265 contractors. We wish all players and support staff a successful Festival of Football during this week. Eddie Sheppard Unit Manager: Stakeholder Relations, Gold Fields A message from Healthway Healthway is delighted to partner with Football West to bring you the Great Southern Festival of Football presented by Smarter than Smoking. Through this partnership young footballers living in the Albany region will have the opportunity to take to the pitch and develop their skills playing football in a fun and competitive environment. The Great Southern Festival of Football is a smoke-free event and supports Healthway’s commitment to create opportunities for young Western Australians to be active and healthy.
