I LEARN TERM 2 FOCUS: LITERACY Friday 6th November 2020 A message from the Headteacher: Our first week back after half term has been a busy one! I’m delighted that the Swindon Youth Literature Festival will be taking place virtually and here at LMA next week. As I said in my letter to all parents and carers yesterday, it is very much business as usual here at Lawn Manor throughout the national lockdown period and we would be delighted to celebrate any positive news stories of successes outside of school in our newsletter, please just contact year leaders or the admin office to let us know. Sandra Muir Headteacher Year 7 Artwork Year 7 art with Miss Townsend Year 7 have been developing their art skills, particularly using pen shading techniques to create bold designs. Over half term, pupils were asked to copy the work of an artist who uses these same techniques in their work. These are some of the amazing art pieces that were handed in. Well done! Here are a few tips from an NHS website regarding identifying head lice and how to get rid of them, which sometimes takes a few treatments. Head lice can make your head feel: • itchy • like something is moving in your hair The only way to be sure someone has head lice is by finding live lice.

  • Ex-Student Harry Apps Has Landed a Role in Les Miserables, Touring the UK Until May 2019
As we come to the end of our first two terms we can reflect on some very positive changes that we have made and look forward to a bright future together. Despite all the fuss in the papers in September the introduction of the new behaviour has been a huge success. We have listened to Student Voice, Staff Voice and Parent Voice which are generally very positive and made tweaks as necessary. The policy is designed to stop low level disruption and improve the learning environment which is exactly what it has done. At the same time we have introduced Show My Homework and our new assessment policy which is based on the very latest research and was praised by the renowned national assessment guru Daisy Christodoulou when she came to the school recently. Sadly two members of staff are leaving us this Christmas. Bill Tucker, our Head of Computer Science, has had enough of travelling from Bath every day and has decided that he will work closer to home and Alex Burns our Mad Dog Rugby Head Coach is leaving to be Head Rugby Coach in a private school in Somerset. We wish them both great success and every possible happiness. In the summer our students yet again excelled themselves keeping in the top 5 schools in Wiltshire at both GCSE and A level/Btec. For the third year in a row we gained our best ever results at GCSE with record numbers gaining the new Strong Pass – a 5 in both English and Maths as well as the Standard Pass – a 4 at English and Maths.

  • Message from the Headteacher Swindon Athletics Trials
Nova News Issue 11 w/c 3rd June 2019 Message from the Headteacher Summer is here. Gardens are in bloom and so are the students at Nova Hreod - as you’ll see in the pages of this newsletter. Our gardening team have been working hard on improving the area they have at the side of the school which has got better and better since September. Likewise, our young athletes have outperformed their own personal bests. We have also had pupils working hard to shine in table tennis and chess. Over the last few weeks, our Year 11 students have really been pushing themselves in their GCSEs. We are looking forward to seeing great commitment too from Year 7-10 pupils as they begin their second set of SPR examinations in the next couple of weeks. Nick Wells Headteacher Swindon Athletics Trials A group of athletes competed at the County Ground against students from across the town to qualify for the Swindon athletics team. The standard was very high and all the students performed exceptionally well, and we are delighted to announce that seven students met the standard to represent Swindon in the next round before hopefully progressing to represent the South West. The seven students are all in the top two in Swindon for their events (with Tyrique and Tiya qualifying for three events each); this is an amazing achievement and we are very proud of them. Well done to everyone that qualified for the trials, and congratulations to the students for their success. Table Tennis Competition A Year 11 Nova team took part in a Table Tennis Competition against other schools at Swindon Academy.

I LEARN TERM 2 FOCUS: LITERACY 15th December 2017 A message from the Headteacher: It has been a very festive week at Lawn Manor! Our first ‘Festive Banquet’ was a roaring success with fantastic food and some live entertainment from our very own Mr Langdown! A new tradition for Lawn Manor. We also had a great evening of entertainment last night at our Christmas Concert, where we were treated to an array of festive entertainment from our music and dance departments. Our community is very important for us at Lawn Manor and I have been humbled by the response to our shoe box appeal – it has been tremendous and the contents will make it more special for local people who will benefit as the donations are going to the charity, Christmas Care Swindon. Amazing, well done. We are also supporting Swindon Food Bank on the last day of term, with our 50p contributions for non-uniform / Christmas Jumper Day, this is another worthy local charity. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year.
