RESOLUTIONNO. 1 16 RESOLUTION COMMENDING REY “BOOM-BOOM BAUTISTA, DONNIE “AHAS” NIETES AND JASON PAGARA FOR WINNING IN THE WBO NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS HELD IN CEBU CITY WATERFRONT HOTEL AND CASINO ON 30 AUGUST 2008 WHEREAS, the Philippine Senate always paid tribute to outstanding Filipinos for their astonishing achievements in giving pride and honor to the country; WHEREAS,on 90 August, 2008, Bautista, Nietes and Pagara competed at the Cebu City Waterfront Hotel and Casino to defend their super bantamweight, minimum wei*ght, youth lightweight titles, respectively: WHEREAS, Mexican Eden “Anestesista” Marquez challenged Rey “Boom-boom’’ Bautista for the super bantamweight title: WHEREAS, the Bohol-raised fighter won and convincingly retained his title as the super bantamweight champion and improved his record to 26 wins, 1 loss with 18 knockouts; WHEREAS, world minimum weight champion Donnie, , “Ahas” Nietes faced Nicaraguan Eddy “Torito” Castro; WHEREAS, the Bacolod-raised fighter triumphed over his challenger and held on to his world minimum weight title, improving his record to 23-1-3with 14 knockouts: WHEREAS,the undercard match showcased WBO Youth lightweight champ Jason Pagara knocking out Thailand‘s Kongdej Sithtrajtrakan; WHEREAS, the Filipino boxers have done the nation proud and have shown the world the Filipinos’ capacity to excel in the field of boxing: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, as it is hereby resolved, To commend Rey “Born-boom” Bautista, Donnie “Ahas” Nietes, and Jason Pagai-a for winning in the WBO Night of Champions held in Cebu City Waterfront Hotel and Casino on 30 August 2008. MIKE REED-AARON HERRERA BOUT ADDED TO OCT. 14 FIGHT CARD AT 2300 ARENA IN PHILLY Philadelphia, PA–Junior welterweight Mike Reed, one of the best prospects in the world at 140 pounds, has been added to the Friday evening, Oct. 14 boxing card at the 2300 Arena. Reed, of Waldorf, MD, goes against Jose Aaron Herrera, of Mexico, in one of three eight-round attractions on the eight- fight card. The other eight-rounders feature junior middleweights Tyrone Brunson, of Philadelphia, against Ismael “Tito” Garcia, of Vineland, NJ, and world-rated junior lightweight Tevin Farmer, of Philadelphia, against Orlando Rizo, of Managua, Nicaragua. Reed, 23, a southpaw, is 19-0, 11 K0s, since turning pro less than four years ago. This will be his second appearance at the 2300 Arena. He earned a six-round decision over Samuel Amoako, of Ghana, on March 18 in the same ring. In his last fight June 11 in Madison Square Garden, Reed stopped Abraham Cordero, of Mexico, in six rounds. The fight was not even a minute old and Marrero was already taunting Rojas and he threw the Puerto Rican to the canvas for good measure. Rojas was warned for a few low punches and Marrero ended the opening round with another array of flashy but light punches-and some more arrogant taunting.
