Bruce sets record in home win over Hartwick Junior center Thomas Bruce set a school record (Div. I era) with a 10-for-10 shooting performance in the win over Hart- wick on Nov. 26. Bruce parlayed seven dunks and three post buckets into 23 points. He added added eight rebounds and two blocks in just 22 minutes of action. Bruce owns the best single-game shooting percentage of any America East player this season.

Veteran Bearcats Binghamton enters the 2017-18 with one of its most seasoned teams in the program’s 17-year Division I history. Eight players on the roster have played in 50 or more college games and seven have played in 60 or more. Five players have tallied 500 or more collegiate points. Head coach Tommy Dempsey returns 88% of the scoring and 85% of the rebounding from last winter.

Stewart times two A pair of Stewarts hit the hardwood for the Bearcats this season: junior Caleb Stewart and redshirt freshman Tyler Stew- art (unrelated). Caleb brings 691 career points to town after one-year stops at Division II programs USC-Aiken (S.C.) and St. Leo (Fla.). Caleb sat out the 2016-17 season due to transfer rules but the 6-foot-9 forward is expected to log plenty of minutes in BU’s frontcourt. Tyler is also coming off a redshirt season at Binghamton. He’s a 6-foot-7 wing who averaged 13.6 points and 7.1 rebounds as a senior at St. Andrew’s Episcopal High in Silver Spring, Md.

Bearcats picked sixth in preseason poll Binghamton was selected to finish tied for sixth in the America East Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The team finished tied for eighth last season after being picked fourth, which was the highest preseason pick in 16 years of America East member- ship. With the higher rung of conference teams returning most of their weapons, BU’s bump up two spots from its finish was a testament to the team’s veteran leadership.

Binghamton will play six first-time opponents The Bearcats’ 2017-18 schedule is loaded with first-time opponents. Five of the team’s first six games are against new foes, including MEAC member Morgan State, A-10 member George Mason and Missouri Valley member Evansville. Both games at the Cancun Challenge will be against new opponents. A first-ever trip to State College and a Dec. 19 game against Big Ten member Penn State wraps up the first semester road slate.

Fourth-year guard Yacob out of lineup with injury Senior guard Yosef Yacob, who has played in 87 career games, continues to be out of the lineup with an injury. He was hurt in the preseason and his return to the floor is uncertain. Yacob shot 42 percent from three-point range last season and sits on 667 career points and 143 assists.

Rodriguez hits 1,000-point mark in junior season Senior forward Willie Rodriguez (1,105 pts.) hit the 1K mark midway through his junior season. He became the 19th BU player to reach 1,000 points in BU’s 70-year basketball history and is already the leading scorer during BU’s 17-year Divi- sion I tenure.

BU won school-record nine non-conference games last season In 2016-17, BU produced the most non-conference wins (9) in 33 years (since 1983-84), going 9-6. The team had a winning record in both November and December and rang up the most wins ever in November (5). Through its first 15 games, BU also didn’t lose twice in a row, going 6-0 following defeats.

Fifty-five points is third-most in any half in program history Binghamton’s 55 second-half points against Cornell on Nov. 13 was the third-highest half output in the program’s 17-year Division I tenure, topped only by the 59 put on the board in a 89-79 win at Cornell on Nov. 13, 2013 and the 62 scored in the second half of a 91-80 win over LIU on Dec. 15, 2006. The program record for first-half points is 52, set against UMBC in an America East first round tournament game at Hartford on March 3, 2011 (91-65 win).

Best in Show Junior guard J.C. Show exploded for 34 points in BU’s 72-70 win over visiting CCSU on Nov. 16, 2016. Show tied school records for points, three-pointers (8) and field goals (12) and hit the game-winning trey with 22 seconds remaining. He shot 12-of-16 from the floor, including 8-of-11 from beyond the arc. In the second half, Show hit 8-of-10 shots, good for 24 points. His highlight reel made ESPN’s SportsCenter that night. One month later, however, his season was over with a triceps injury. GAME NOTES 4 2017-18 Binghamton Bearcats Basketball www.bubearcats.com
