SERIAL NUMBERS OF TARGETS

1. Instructions Regarding Use of Serial Number

The assignment of serial numbers to major known installations is for the purpose of simplifying dispatches relating thereto* Targets should be indicated by serial number whenever practic able but location of targets may be indicated by target square or grid coordinate if necessary. To avaid possible confusion numbers corresponding to the target square numbers have been eliminated from the serial numbers. Now installations willbe assigned numbers only by CTF 52, and units willbo advised of such assignments by dispatch. Now installations willbo as signed the number of a previously known target in the same 200 yard square, with the addition of a, b, c/etc, to the number* To facilitate the numbering of new targets, a number has been assigned to each 200-yard square which now contains no known installations. Serial numbers do not appear on the maps; how- over, where it becomes necessary to distinguish between targets of the same type in a 200-yard square a description indicating location in tho square such as "Eastern", "Western", etc, will be added. The following list of target serial numbers should be kept up to date "lay insertion of now numbers when assigned.
