All four players are trying to earn their first Citi Open title. Monfils was runner-up in 2011. In the first singles match on Stadium Court, Johnson brings a 3-1 head-to-head record against Karlovic, who leads the tournament with 66 aces. Two of Johnson’s wins against Karlovic have come in a third-set tie-break (’13 San Jose & ’14 Washington). Both players have not been broken in the tournament with Karlovic holding all 33 service games (saved 5 BPs) and Johnson holding 32 service games (saved 7 BPs). Both players also won ATP World Tour grass court titles in the past month, Johnson in Nottingham on June 25 and Karlovic last week in Newport. Johnson is back in the semi-finals for the second straight year. Since a 6-14 start, Johnson has compiled a 14-3 match record in his past five tournaments. The 37-year-old Karlovic is appearing in his first Citi Open semi- final since 2007 (l. to Roddick). He also has rebounded after a slow start. Karlovic began the season with an 0-6 mark but has compiled a 15-7 match record in the past nine tournaments In the evening match, #NextGen star Zverev squares off with Monfils for the third time. The Frenchman won both previous indoor meetings in Marseille (61 76) in February 2015 and in Rotterdam (76 63) in February this year. Both players have only lost serve once en route to the semis and they are co-leaders in return games won this week (35%, 11 of 31 games) Zverev looks to reach his third ATP World Tour final of the season. The 19-year-old German wild card is the first teenager to reach the semi-finals here since (19) Juan Martin del Potro captured the title in 2008. Zverev is appearing in his fifth ATP World Tour semi-final of the season (2-2). Monfils, who reached the final here five years ago in his last Citi Open appearance (l. to Stepanek), is also attempting to advance to his third final of the year. The 29-year-old Frenchman is trying to reach his 25th career ATP World Tour final (5-19).
