NBC Learn Content (NBC Archives on Demand) Note: NBC Learn is a direct link to National Broadcasting Corporations (NBC) video and content website that contains over 10,000 of professionally made multimedia content. NBC News Archives on Demand is built around a collection of NBC News film and video clips starting with the Universal Newsreels of the 1930s and going up through the very latest current events. The collection includes some of the first television news broadcasts, as well as historic moments and current stories from shows like , TODAY and NBC Nightly News, as well as MSNBC, CNBC, and . Additionally there are non-video resources in the archives including 500 primary source documents, letters, diaries, and more. There are articles from and as well as a collection of photographs, editorial and political cartoons, and charts and graphs.

1. Go into the content area where NBC Learn video would be added.

2. Click the Build Content button.

3. From the drop down menu, select NBC Content.

4. You will be prompted saying Loading NBC Logo...

3 Ways to Search

I. Search All Collections (based on Course Listings)

Note: This site is updated regularly with current events. The website is presented in collations or topics geared specifically to education departments.

1. On the left, click an area of interest (Ex: Biology).

2. To further narrow your search, click on a specific area of the topic (Ex: Genetics).

Note: Depending on the topic, you might be asked to break the topic down further

Note: To go back a topic choice, click the Back button

II. Advanced Search

Note: Advanced Search is based on Keywords and a specific date. This is good for when you saw a clip on the news the previous evening or week and wanted to find the clip to include in your class lecture.

1. Click on the Advanced Search button.

2. Within the Search By Keyword:, type a single Keyword to either All, Or, or Not spaces.

3. Within the Search By Date:, identify the Event Date or Air/Publish Date by clicking the radio buttons.

4. Next to From and To, click on the calendar icon to select a date range.

5. When ready, click the SEARCH button.

III. Search Using Keywords

1. Type a keyword in the Search the Archives field.

2. To begin the search, click the magnifying glass icon.

Viewing the Video and Navigating the Cue Card

1. Select a video to view by double clicking on the thumbnail.

2. A new window will appear called a Cue Card.

Note: The cue card has the following information: a. What station it appeared on. b. Title of the clip c. Date it aired d. Transcript e. Save f. Embed g. Print Note: The video will automatically begin h. Download playing once it has loaded.

Additional Information about the Video

Note: To view the citation information for the video, click the flip button in the top right corner of the Cue Card

Note: There’s a full set of bibliographic information, as well as a short description, and a set of hyperlinked keywords located on the Cue Card’s back

Note: Within Citations, all you need to do is select what type of citation (MLA, APA, and Manual of Style) you desire and click the Copy button

Save Button

Note: The Save button allows you to add it to the “My Playlist” to allow you to go back at a later time to see if this video will be used within the course.

1. Within the Cue Card, click the Save button.

2. A new dialog box will appear, saying it has been added to your playlist, click the OK button.

3. To access this video again, in the top left corner, click the MY PLAYLIST.

4. You will be placed back into your Blackboard course asking you to select a Video from Your Playlist to Embed.

5. Select the radio button next to the item you wish to add.

6. When finished, click the Submit button.

Embed Button

Note: Blackboard gives you a quick and easy way to embed these videos in your Blackboard course site. You and your students can just click on the picture of the video to play it. In addition, the students and you have the option to print or save the transcript which is a PDF file or download the video so that it can be watched offline.

1. Within the Cue Card, click the Embed button.

2. You will be automatically redirected to your Blackboard page with the video at the bottom.

Print Button

Note: The print button allows individuals to print or save a PDF file of the following information corresponding to the video: a picture of the video, general information, description, keywords corresponding to the video, citations, and the transcript.

1. Within the Cue Card, click on the Print button.

2. A new window will appear, click either Print or PDF.

3. Follow the prompts for the desired choice.

Downloading the Video Button

Note: If you have trouble finding a reliable or fast Internet connection, you can download NBC News videos to your desktop and play them back off-line. Once you download the Adobe Air software, you can always access your offline player by clicking the NBC Peacock icon on your desktop, and as long as your Archives on Demand subscription remains active, your clips will play. If it lapses or expires, they will stop playing until the subscription is renewed.

1. Within the Cue Card, click the Download button.

Note: The video will download to an offline version of the Cue Card that lives locally on your computer. The download player is built in Adobe Air. The first time you download a clip to that computer it will prompt you to install the product. It should not take more than a minute.

Note: You will need to sign out of Blackboard and open a new browser after this install.

2. Once Adobe Air is installed and you have gone back into Blackboard and located the video again, select either High or Low video quality button.

Note: If you plan to project this up onto a projector screen, it’s recommended High quality. However, be aware that it will be a large file and will need storage space.

3. The video will download to the Adobe Air video player.

4. At the top of the window, hover your mouse over NBC Learn to bring up the menu.

5. Click on the Export button.

6. Click the Browse button.

7. Identify the location where the file will be stored.

8. Click the OK button.
