Alderley Edge Take 31 Points Lead ! Cheshire County Cricket League 2016 NEWSLETTER : WEEK 6 - MAY 28 ! Alderley Edge take 31 points lead ALDERLEY EDGE, whose last ECB Premier League title came in 2008, eased into a 31 points lead when they registered their fifth win of the season by seven wickets at home to Nantwich. On this occasion without Andrew Flintoff, who appeared in two recent cup games, ‘Edge had Richard Wilkinson, 3-19 and Jordan Clark, 3-52 to thank for dismissing their visitors for a humble 143. Alderley replied with a comfortable 147-3, after Calum Rowe, 62 and Alan Day, 40 had enjoyed a 115-run opening stand. Hyde, who look well-equipped to make another title bid, roasted Urmston by 136 runs at Werneth Low after posting 231-9, Dan Berry 52, Callum Parkinson 5-65, Matt Parkinson 4-71. Urmston’s batting collapsed to 95 all out against the 6-32 return of Aussie paceman William Walker. After starting the season full of runs, Toft were dismissed for double figures for the second week running, this time at Bowdon where they mustered only 81 chasing the home side’s own modest 149, Dan Williams 37, Peter Talbot 5-32. Toft’s destroyer was Chris Ashling who has made a fine start to the campaign, with figures of 15-1-35-7. Chester accounted for old Merseyside rivals Neston by three wickets at Boughton Hall Avenue. Their visitors posted 193, Old Boy Ash Davis 5-51, then replied with 194-7, Ollie Law 63 after recovering from 46-4. Timperley moved into the top half with a three-runs win at Bramhall. Timpers posted 189-9, Luke Littlewood 5-24, then dismissed their hosts for 186 after another superb innings of 104 by Aussie Dale McKay just failed to save the day (Chris Page 3-44). The only premiership side without a win, Macclesfield were roundly beaten at Cheadle, who posted 280, the highest total of the day, Dan Brown contributing a fine 133 with Greg Dixon, 51 in an opening stand worth 182, John Birchall 4-52. Macc were all out for 177, Ollie Marsden 51, Rashid Amin 4-40. Fifth win for Didsbury DIDSBURY stay top of Division One after posting their fifth win, by four wickets at home to Weaverham after their visitors had reached 201-9, Wilden Cornwall 73. Top scorer in Didsbury’s reply of 202-6 was Tim Hughes, 67. Grappenhall are up second following a five wickets win at Oulton Park where they successfully chased 178-6 (Pat Roberts 73 not out). Peter Barnes, with 62, led Grappers’ reply. Tattenhall registered their first victory and moved off bottom spot with a thrilling late win against Cheadle Hulme at The Flacca. ‘Hulme totalled 220-9, Alex Reid 67 not out and Tatters made it at 226-7 when Owen Williamson hit the penultimate ball for six after Glen Coppack’s earlier 80. Bollington beat Marple by five wickets, Stuart Plant’s 4-28 being the match-winning contribution. Oxton moved up with a six wickets win at Sale, whose Brooke Guest, 87 and Luke McCoy, 86 had put on 156 for the home side’s fourth wicket. Gayan Fernando, 5-48. Andy Gibson’s fine 83 after tea won it for the Wirral men. Davenham won by seven wickets in a low-scoring game at Warrington after routing the home side for 67, Robin Taylor 6-33, Widnes looking good WIDNES look strong in Division Two, a 152 runs victory at Stockport giving them a four points advantage. Sean Moore, 96 and Fayaz Ughradar, 71, enjoyed a 159 stand for the third wicket in Widnes’ 243-4. Stockport were bowled out for 92, Ughradar completing a fine match with 5-35. New boys Lindow ended Brooklands’ winning run in a low-scorer at Upcast Lane. Brooklands totalled 110 and Lindow made it at 113-8, Ryan O’Brien’s superb unbeaten knock of 72 making the difference. Congleton recorded their first victory, by 13 runs at Upton after posting 162-9, with number eight batsman Harry Podmore scoring 48. Upton reached 145, with Higginbottom performing a match-winning 5-40. Christleton won by seven runs at Alvanley with key contributions from Matt Astbury, 4-39 and Atif Bhardwa, 49. Mobberley batsmen were in form at home to Middlewich, with 257-5, Charlie Nield 95. Middlewich reached 186-6. Barrow amassed 265-4 at The Croft in playing conditions which among the most attractive in the League, Alex Reid 67 not out.
