2016-2017 Program Guide.Pub Welcome to CPAC! Welcome to the 2016-2017 season at CPAC! This year marks a new beginning as we proudly usher in newly installed seats in the theater and an ever expanding calendar of year round program- ming! Performers making their debut at CPAC include DanzArts Dance Company, cowboy poet Andy Nelson, Mediterranean guitarist Pavlo, Manhattan Dolls and Canadian fiddling troup The Fitzger- ald Family Band. CPAC is pleased to bring back many favorites including Rex Allen Jr., Tucson Jazz Institute, Mariachi Sol Az- teca and the New Christy Minstrels. CPAC continues its annual film series with a documentary on the Butterfield Stage Coach and the Santa Cruz Shoestring Players will produce four plays this sea- son including the popular Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat! In the coming year CPAC will also host a week long visual arts workshop with Vermont resident and nationally acclaimed instruc- tor, Jane Davies, along with dozens of art classes, exhibits and other community events. Kick off your Independence Day weekend with an ice cream social and patriotic cele- bration in recognition of America’s birthday and the won- derful men and women who serve our nation, both home and abroad. Music selections will include works by Gould, Sousa, Cohan and many others. GREEN VALLEY SUMMER CHORUS Saturday, September 17 th at 7:00PM Tickets: $15/$20 in advance - all tickets $20 at door Join the Green Valley Summer Chorus in celebrating their third annual summer concert here at CPAC. This forty- voice ensemble will feature a variety of music ranging across the choral repertoire. The majority of the chorus members currently perform in the Green Valley Commu- nity Chorus, a non-profit choir composed of approximately 80 enthusiastic voices from surrounding southern Arizona communities. The Green Valley Community Chorus began in 1974 as separate men’s and women’s choruses, and was founded by Robert Slater. Today, the chorus has evolved into a full mixed concert ensemble performing an array of concert works including Renaissance motets, African American spirituals, premieres of contemporary music and treasured choral-orchestral masterworks. ARIZONA FRONTIER DOUBLE FEATURE: Legends of the Lost Dutchman / Mysteries of Canyon Diablo Two Films by Phil Wenstrand Wednesday, September 28 th at 7:00 PM Tickets: $10 in advance - all tickets $15 at door For well over a hundred years prospectors, adventurers and even tourists have searched in vain for the famous Lost Dutchman gold mine in Arizona’s Superstition Mountains. Dozens have died in this rugged place only a few miles from downtown Phoenix. Was there a “Dutchman” and did he have a fabulous mine that contained, in his words “enough treasure for ten men?” “Legends of the Lost Dutchman” follows his trail and those of the men and women who continue to search. For a brief time in the 1880’s the little town of Canyon Diablo in northern Arizona became the wickedest place on the frontier. With a killing almost every day, no lawman dared step foot in this den of gamblers, robbers and thieves. This was “the end of the track,” a community of tents, tar paper shacks and murderers. Both of these films were produced by Arizona filmmaker Phil Wenstrand. CPAC THEATER GRAND REOPENING! Friday, September 30 th at 3:30 PM Admission is free: Tickets are required for admission What better way to kick off the season than a ribbon cut- ting to commemorate our newly renovated theater with improved seating? In honor of CPAC’s generous donors, members and patrons, a wine and cheese reception will take place in the theater lobby at 3:30pm followed by a sneak preview of two CPAC performances and an over- view of the 2016-2017 season. This event is open to all CPAC members, donors and flex pass holders. Tickets are available through the CPAC office by calling 399- 1750. Seating is limited. CANNONBALL JAZZ COMBO Featuring Members of the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Corps Band From Fort Huachuca, AZ Friday, October 7 th at 7PM Free admission - tickets required for entry Named after jazz musician and former soldier, Julian "Cannonball" Adderly, the Cannonball Combo is the jazz team for the MI Corps Band. In addition to traditional jazz, this en- semble creates its own arrangements of current hits from all genres. Cannonball Combo performs concerts in a variety of venues from schools and festivals to military balls and recep- tions. ROBERT MIRABAL Wednesday, October 12 th at 7PM Tickets: $15/$20 in advance - all tickets $20 at door Two-time GRAMMY Award winner, Robert Mirabal, lives with his family at the foot of the sacred Taos Mountain in northern New Mexico. Maintaining a traditional life, keeping the centu- ries-old customs of the Taos Pueblo people, Robert has been described as a Native American “Renaissance man” – musician, composer, painter, master craftsman, poet, actor, screenwriter, horseman and farmer – and he travels extensively playing his music all over the world. As a teenager he had the opportunity to meet Native American flute player R. Carlos Nakai who greatly influenced him. In the years since, Robert has continued the evo- lution of his music and has also become an accomplished concert performer and recording artist. His 12 albums of traditional mu- sic, rock and roll and spoken word present a contemporary view of American Indian life that is unequaled. A leading proponent of world music, Robert has merged his indigenous American sound with those of Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean, tapping into a planetary pulse with a style that defies categorization. Robert has won many honors including two-time Native Ameri- can Artist of the Year, three-time Songwriter of the Year, a 2006 GRAMMY Award for Sacred Ground, and his 2008 GRAMMY Award for Johnny Whitehorse Totemic Flute Chants. His 2002 breakthrough PBS Special, Music From a Painted Cave , is unsur- passed in Native American theatrical expression. Mirabal por- trayed Tony Lujan in the movie Georgia O’Keeffe, starring three- time Academy Award nominee, Joan Allen. In recent years, Robert has appeared on Japanese and Italian TV as well as sev- eral guest roles on Walker, Texas Ranger . His current one-man show digs into the agricultural roots of his homeland on the Taos Pueblo, from the stories to the land to the water and sky. Miribal emphasizes his culture’s devotion to the ancient people and an- cient seeds through song, dance and stories, creating inspiration and reminders that our relationship to ourselves delves deeper than just our human connections. ANDY NELSON Cowboy Poet and Humorist Friday, October 14 th at 7PM Tickets: $15/$20 in advance - all tickets $20 at door As a second-generation farrier, Andy Nelson has the experience, talent and humor to bring authenticity and entertainment to an audience. Raised in Oakley, Idaho, Andy traveled the Great Ba- sin of southern Idaho, northern Utah and northern Nevada with his father on farrier jobs throughout his childhood and he contin- ued to shoe horses for the Utah State University Horsemanship Program during his college years. Now Andy lives in Pinedale, Wyoming where he and his wife Jaclyn raise horses and children. Andy and his farrier brother Jim, co-host the "Clear Out West (C.O.W.) Radio" weekly syndicated radio show. The brothers are also in high demand as announcers at regional rodeos. Andy has won numerous awards including the 2006, 2013, 2014 and 2015 Western Music Association Male Poet of the Year.

The first part of the thesis introduces Lloyd Webber’s biography, his close collaborators as well as his production company the Really Useful Group and description of all his works. The main part of the thesis is aimed at his musicals Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ Superstar , rather their origin and development, the main plot and their main characters that have many things in common. Both these musicals are based on topics from the Bible. The thesis also deals with the librettos and their translation into Czech. Running now through January 2, 2011, Beck’s commitment to family-friendly holiday entertainment is in full force, as Joseph… will delight the young crowd and prove a satisfying guilty pleasure for the adult sect, as well. The story follows the Bible’s Book of Genesis account of Joseph through the voice of an ever-present narrator. One of Jacob’s 12 sons, Joseph is Jacob’s favorite, which leads to jealousy among his siblings. It’s bad enough that Joseph has prophetic dreams of grandeur, but when Joseph gets the amazing gift of a beautiful, multi-colored coat from his father, the resentful brothers hatch a plan to sell him into slavery, telling their dad that he was killed. Joseph is then set on a path from slavery to greatness, along the way interacting with everyone from a rich master and his seductive wife, to a butler, a baker and eventually an Elvis-inspired Pharaoh. The music is brought to us by the well-known combo of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, also known for Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita. There is a plethora of musical styles, and audiences will not be bored while being taken through 100 minutes (plus an intermission) of country, Elvis, Parisian, rap, calypso and Broadway power ballad.
