After serving 21 years, 7 months, 21 days he retired on the 1st day of October, 1969. While serving our country in Kobe, Japan he met the love of his life and on the 16th day of July, 1958 married Kiyoko Mizutani. He had one son Jack Franklin Abbott that followed his father and served in the United States Army. His wife Kiyoko had "Gone Ahead to Light the Way" on the 16th day of July, 1989, on their 31st Anniversary, and his son Jack passed away on the 24th day of May, 2006. James also worked at Queen of the Valley Hospital as a cook from 1972 until he retired from full time work 1990 but continued to work on-call until Feb 1995. James was a very active member of many organizations as long as he was physically able.
