Travis Scott and Fortnite
NIELSEN SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT TRAVIS SCOTT ASTRONOMICAL @FORTNITE MAY 2020 Copyright © 2020 The Nielsen Company (US), LLC. Confidential and proprietary. Do not distribute. INTRODUCTION The extreme quarantine and lockdown measures have quickly become the new normal for us all. The direct impact on event attendance across entertainment and sports has caused many businesses to rethink how they can engage with their target audiences during this time. Fortnite, the online video game, has adapted to these circumstances and reinvented the concept of aggregation. Epic Games, in collaboration with Travis Scott, organized a unique musical journey inspired by the artist's influences and created from scratch within Fortnite: Astronomical. Epic Games planned a multi-date tour, with times suitable for players from all over the world, in which Travis Scott also performed a world preview song. The American artist attracted millions of people, who all tuned in via the game, in addition to various other video streaming platforms such as Youtube and Twitch, which also allowed viewers to watch the performances. As an example, the average minute audience (AMA) for this event on Epic Games’ official Twitch channel reached a total of 4.7M, with roughly half of that (2.3M) coming from live viewers during the initial event. Besides being at the forefront of reinventing entertainment formats, Fortnite continues to be a highly lucrative and well-known game. It made $1.8B* in 2019, and in Q1 2020 it remained as one of the highest- grossing and well-known gaming titles in the United States. Between March and April console and PC revenue grew 106% and the game hit an all-time high awareness level amongst the gaming community (92% awareness in the US**) showing that the event paid off. -

Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: an Analysis Into Graphic Design's
Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres by Vivian Le A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems (Honors Scholar) Presented May 29, 2020 Commencement June 2020 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Vivian Le for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems presented on May 29, 2020. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time. -

Signed Christy Elizabeth Newman Date: November 3, 1997 2. Title of Thesis:Repeat-the-Beat: Industries, Genres and Citizenships in Dance Music Magazines Repeat-The-Beat: iii Abstract This thesis examines a particular cultural object: dance music magazines. It explores the co-imbrication of the magazines with dance music and considers how a reconfiguration of the field of genre theory can help to dismantle the generic separations of ‘textual’ and ‘industrial’ approaches to cultural objects. The main argument of the thesis is as follows. The magazine industries produce an object of cultural exchange which is made commercially viable through a narrowing of its target audiences. These audiences arise in the space created by the dance music industries’ negotiation of an imagined contest between 'underground' authenticity and 'mainstream' productivity. In turn, dance music magazines produce a powerfully exclusive space for the communication networks of the dance music genre by capitalising on the desire to stabilise genre and therefore taking up generic instability as a positive youth marketing strategy. -

The Justice in Policing Act of 2020 in the U.S
June 23, 2020 Honorable Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House 1236 Longworth House Office Building Washington, DC 20515 Honorable Kevin McCarthy Republican Leader 2468 Rayburn House Office Building Washington, DC 20515 Dear Speaker Pelosi and Leader McCarthy: Since the killing of George Floyd just one month ago, our country has seen protests grow, attitudes shift, and calls for change intensify. We in the music and entertainment communities believe that Black lives matter and have long decried the injustices endured by generations of Black citizens. We are more determined than ever to push for federal, state, and local law enforcement programs that truly serve their communities. Accordingly, we are grateful for movement of the Justice in Policing Act of 2020 in the U.S. House of Representatives and urge its quick passage. The Justice in Policing Act is not about marginal change; it takes bold steps that will make a real, positive difference for law enforcement and the communities they serve. We celebrate the long- overdue rejection of qualified immunity, emphasizing that law enforcement officers themselves are not above the law – that bad cops must be held accountable and victims must have recourse. We applaud the provisions to ban chokeholds and no-knock warrants, to establish a national police misconduct registry, to collect data and improve investigations into police misconduct, to promote de-escalation practices, to establish comprehensive training programs, and to update and enhance standards and practices. This legislation will not only promote justice; it will establish a culture of responsibility, fairness, and respect deserving of the badge. Our communities and nation look to you to take a stand in this extraordinary moment and we respectfully ask that you vote YES on the Justice in Policing Act of 2020. -

That’s…that’s amazing. I’ve seen God in the window. That really got me…he’s been my idol since I was a kid…I’m…I’m speechless really. That’s very moving…” David Bowie, during his 50th Birthday Special on Radio 1, having listened to a recorded surprise birthday greeting from the elusive Scott Walker. Who can render David Bowie speechless? Who recorded Johnny Marr’s “favorite song of all time?” Who does Radiohead turn to time and time again as an inspirational touchstone? Who was bigger than the Beatles and the Stones for a shining moment, but turned away from fame only to morph into one of the most enigmatic and reclusive living legends in music today? THE MAN IS SCOTT WALKER. BUT WHO IS SCOTT WALKER? Called the “greatest voice of his generation," he was the lead singer of 60's sensation The Walker Brothers ("The Sun Aint' Gonna Shine Anymore") His fan club outnumbered the Beatles’ in 1965.
