TAR HEELS VISIT CROSSTOWN RIVALS IN ACC FINALE North Carolina (25-4, 10-3 ACC) will close out its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule when the Tar Heels make the short drive to Durham to face Duke at 5 p.m. at Cameron Indoor Stadium. McCants and Hansbrough posed together in the Smith Center in late October for the regional cover. McCants’ brother Rashad appeared on the 2004-05 preview issue, and it is believed that they are the first brother-sister pair to grace the cover of SI.

CAROLINA IN PRESEASON TOP 10 ONCE AGAIN North Carolina is ranked in the top 10 in both major polls to open the season for the fifth consecutive year. The Tar Heels are ranked No. 4 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches’ poll, while the Associated Press has Carolina at No. 6. UNC was ranked No. 2 in both polls ot open 2006-07, its highest-ever preseason rankings.

TAR HEELS ADD FIVE IN SIGNING CLASS The University of North Carolina women’s basketball program signed five high school seniors to National Letters of Intent, head coach Sylvia Hatchell announced Nov. 12.

The five members of the class of 2013 are Krista Gross of Concord, N.C., Waltia Rolle of Nassau, Bahamas, Tierra Ruffin-Pratt of Alexandria, Va., Cierra Warren of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Nyree Williams of Ellicott City, Md.

Gross, who attends the Cannon School in Concord, N.C., is a 6-0 guard. She is a four-time all-state performer who has scored over 3,000 career points. The No. 23 senior in the country according to ESPNU HoopGurlz and the No. 7 shooting guard according to the All-Star Girls Report, Gross is a five-time all-conference performer at the Cannon School who averages 24 points and 14 rebounds per game. She is the daughter of Elton and Hannele Gross.

Rolle, who attends Westbury Christian School in Houston, Texas, is a 6-6 forward/center. A first-team TAPPS all-state performer and the District 4-5A Player of the Year as a junior, Rolle is ranked as the No. 9 post in the country by both ESPNU HoopGurlz and the All-Star Girls Report. One of the tallest premier seniors in the country this year, Rolle averaged 18.4 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 2.7 blocked shots per game as a junior at Westbury Christian. She is the daughter of Maxwell and Donna Rolle.

Ruffin-Pratt, who attends T.C. Williams High in Alexandria, Va., is a 5-10 guard. The No. 1 senior guard in the country according to ESPNU HoopGurlz, Ruffin-Pratt led her high school team to an undefeated regular season as a junior. She was the 2008 Gatorade Player of the Year for Virginia. Ruffin-Pratt was also the 2008 Washington Post All-Met Player of the Year after earning first-team All-Met honors as a sophomore and second-team accolades as a freshman. A three-time first-team all-state performer and the 2006 USA Today Freshman of the Year, Ruffin-Pratt averaged 27 points, 15 rebounds and 7.0 assists as a junior. She is the daughter of Deneen Pratt.

Warren, who attends Los Osos High in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., is a 6-4 forward. Ranked No. 31 in the nation by ESPNU HoopGurlz, Warren averaged 22.1 points, 12.9 rebounds, 4.6 blocks per game as a junior. Warren is a two-time Baseline League MVP for Los Osos, and one the No. 10 post in the nation according to All-Star Girls Report. She is the daughter of Margaret Warren.

Williams, who attends Howard High in Ellicott City, Md., is a 6-1 forward. The top shot-blocker in Howard County with 98 swats as a junior, Williams is rated as the No. 16 senior forward in the country by ESPNU HoopGurlz. A versatile defender who averaged over 12 rebounds and four steals per game as a junior, Williams also scored 17.8 points per game and reached the 1,000-point milestone for her career.
