His mother, Cecilia White. Seventeen months into the news cycle surrounding those questions (they were first publicly hinted at in a tweet on January 5, 2020), they’re still putting off lots of heat and very little light. And that’s likely to remain the case, because the “Wuhan Lab Leak theory” is not a theory. A theory has to be objectively testable such that if it’s false it can be PROVEN false. Otherwise, it’s just a hypothesis. If my car keys go missing, I can hypothesize that little green faeries (who have the power to fool security cameras) took them in the middle of the night, then forgot to put them back after taking my car out for a joyride, filling the gas tank back up, parking it back where they found it, and rolling back the odometer. My hypothesis “explains” the missing car keys. But it can’t be falsified. If I find the keys in my jacket pocket, well, the faeries obviously put them there, dummy! Many “conspiracy theories” are just hypotheses which continuously change to accommodate any evidence that might disprove them. No, I’m not saying the “Wuhan Lab Leak” hypothesis is a wild-eyed “conspiracy theory.” But it’s also not likely testable or falsifiable. For one thing, the Chinese regime, while notable for many things, is not notable for its likely willingness to let western investigators poke around Wuhan at will, actively assisting those investigators in determining whether it accidentally or intentionally killed millions of human beings and cratered the global economy. For another, the regimes urging such an investigation have a long record of lying about pretty much everything (does “Saddam has WMD” ring any bells? How about “the NSA doesn’t spy on Americans?”), and have already Please turn to„Page D Page B38 AMANDALABelize Friday, June 11, 2021 FCD calls for action in Adjacency Zone

He has only been in power for 2 years and, in a country like El Salvador with millions of people in its population, he has managed to accomplish things never before done in his country. Mr. Bukele, among other accomplishments, has managed to drastically lower the crime rate, has built a COVID-19 hospital which is considered one of the best in the region, has managed to control the propagation of the COVID-19 virus, has done various infrastructural projects around his country, and has created employment and housing for the poor. My point, Belizeans, is why can’t we, with a much smaller country and even smaller population, do the same things that El Salvador is doing, in a time of a global pandemic? Why can’t we control the COVID-19 rate? Why can’t we build houses for the poor? Why can’t we charge, convict and jail corrupt politicians who steal the nation’s money while simultaneously filling their pockets? My question is, do my Belizeans lack initiative and fortitude to do the right thing? Why can’t we ask the neighboring countries for assistance, not necessarily for money, but for better medication/ healthcare, crime control tips, training and building material for building schools/hospitals/houses, just to name a few? What is our problem? I know for a fact that where there is a will there is a way! A past politician once told me that we (Belizeans) are not a country of beggars, and my reply was that there is nothing wrong with begging the world as long as it’s not for the sole self-gain of politicians but for the betterment of the Belizean people. Thank you all. I hope our leader reads this letter and takes some similar action and tries to emulate the ways of El Salvador, which we are so close to.

Actually, the 39 villages having communal land rights absolutely should not have a village chairperson with councilors. However, the system continues to operate with both in place: The Alcalde’s role has been diminished to a sort of Judicial one, while the village council is allowed to act as the Executive, with the backing of the national government. Until the proper demarcation of all almost 200 villages is conducted, the national government will continue to dictate what happens in all of them — whether they use the Alcalde or village council to get it done. I have always felt that they were only able to manipulate the village councils. However, these younger Alcaldes seem to have their prices as well. We need to get our own Indigenous Peoples Act and Indigenous Peoples Land Act in place ASAP to conform with the CCJ rulings and stop confusing BELIZEANS — or remove Belize’s signature from the Convention(s) that mandates it and ties any independent judge’s hands in their rulings. Belize wants to look good internationally by signing these UN/OAS Conventions to say we value and respect our indigenous peoples’ right to autonomy! The REALITY on the ground is that they RESIST the required LOCAL legal framework (putting in place the NEW LAWS required) to fulfill Belize’s obligations under these Conventions. On another note — in a similar way, there has been a need for the RECONDEV law to be repealed since 1999 when the The City of Belmopan Act became law and a new authority was legislated to do EVERYTHING RECONDEV does plus everything else the Belmopan City Council continues to do.
