Family Romance, LLC – ein Spielfilm mit dokumentarischem Einfluss Die neue Doku-Fiction von Werner Herzog thematisiert ein sehr außergewöhnliches Konzept: Die Firma „Family Romance“ in Japan, gegründet und geführt von Yuichi Ishii, vermietet Personen für verschiedene Anlässe. Ob für eine Familienfeier, als Ersatzvater oder als Ehemann. Die Vermietung bringt vor allem eines: Die Menschen, die sie nutzen, sind nicht allein. Für den Film spielt Ishii, CEO von „Family Romance“, höchstpersönlich die Rolle des Ersatzvaters für die zwölfjährige Mahiro, deren Vater seit zehn Jahren verschwunden ist. Und das macht die eigentlich fiktionale Erzählung zu etwas Besonderem. Die Kamera begleitet die beiden in ihrem „normalen“ Alltag, ohne einem festgelegten Ablauf zu folgen – authentisch, lebensecht und doch inszeniert. Werner Herzog spielt hier mit verschiedenen Genres, pendelt zwischen Fiktion und Wahrheit. Doku-Fiction kostenlos auf MUBI Auf MUBI ist die neue Doku-Fiction nun am Freitag, den 3. SYNOPSIS Werner Herzog turns the camera on himself and his decades-long friendship with the late travel writer Bruce Chatwin, a kindred spirit whose quest for ecstatic truth carried him to all corners of the globe. Herzog’s deeply personal portrait of Chatwin, illustrated with archival discoveries, film clips, and a mound of “brontosaurus skin,” encompasses their shared interest in aboriginal cultures, ancient rituals, and the mysteries stitching together life on earth. WERNER HERZOG Werner Herzog was born in Munich on September 5, 1942. He grew up in a remote mountain village in Bavaria and studied History and German Literature in Munich and Pittsburgh. He made his first film in 1961 at the age of 19. Since then he has produced, written, and directed more than sixty feature- and documentary films, such as Aguirre der Zorn Gottes (AGUIRRE, THE WRATH OF GOD, 1972), Nosferatu Phantom der Nacht (NOSFERATU, 1978), FITZCARRALDO (1982), Lektionen in Finsternis (LESSONS OF DARKNESS, 1992), LITTLE DIETER NEEDS TO FLY (1997), Mein liebster Feind (MY BEST FIEND, 1999), INVINCIBLE (2000), GRIZZLY MAN (2005), ENCOUNTERS AT THE END OF THE WORLD (2007), Die Höhle der vergessenen Träume (CAVE OF FORGOTTEN DREAMS, 2010). Inner and deeper: Motifs of fiction in Werner Herzog's films Chantal Poch [email protected], Pompeu Fabra University Volume 7.2 (2019) | ISSN 2158-8724 (online) | DOI /cinej.2019.224 | http://cinej.pitt.edu Abstract The emphasis on the mix of facts and inventions has prevailed in the studies about Bavarian director Werner Herzog’s treatment of fiction, leading to the same result again and again: for Herzog, poetic truth is more important than factual truth. But how can we go beyond this conclusion? This paper will try to open an alternative path of analysis more adequate to his philosophy of filmmaking, one that works through the detection of visual and narrative motifs in his films, thus searching the impact of Herzog’s idea of fiction into his poetics. Inner and deeper: Motifs of fiction in Werner Herzog's films Chantal Poch Introduction Asking ourselves about the nature of fiction in film brings up to the question whether this fiction acts as an opposite of truth or, indeed, as truth itself. Bavarian director Werner Herzog has built an entire oeuvre regarding this problem: from the blurry lines between his fictional movies and documentaries to the recurrent inclusion of false quotes and events on his scripts, all of his films seem to add something to the same direction: the confusion of fact and fiction. -

RESUMO Todo cinema contém um caráter antropológico, por ser aberto como a própria humanidade. A obra de Werner Herzog é contigua à antropologia fundamental, que busca compreender o processo de penetração do homem no mundo e o processo inseparável de penetração do mundo no homem. O primeiro filme analisado, Wodaabe: Os pastores do sol, trata do amor à beleza entre seres que se sentem desprezados pelos povos vizinhos. O segundo, O homem urso, de um humano que queria ser urso e não suportava o mundo dos humanos. O terceiro, A caverna dos sonhos esquecidos, conta como sonhava a humanidade há 32 mil anos, como projetava seu duplo nas paredes das cavernas e nas pequenas estátuas. Nas pinturas e estátuas estão presentes, ao mesmo tempo, uma tendência para o fantástico e para a realidade das formas. -
