An Mhaigh Tír na nÓg G.A.C. Centenary Year 2008

This year was like none other for the of An Mhaigh Tír na nÓg G.A.C. as we proudly marked the occasion of our club’s 100th birthday. The Centenary celebrations began back in January and have been in full swing ever since. The following is a month by month account of what has been a truly special year for everyone associated with G.A.A. in the Moy.

January Moy celebrate being the first winners of the new Gerry White/Gary O’Callaghan Memorial Cup having defeated Antrim club O’Donovan Rossa at Shaw’s Road, Belfast over the Christmas period. The Charity football match raised £850 for the N.I. Hospice. The first official event in our club’s Centenary Year took place when a good mix of young and older Gaels gathered at Moy Parochial Hall for the Annual General Meeting. P.B. Laverty (Cathaoirleach), Mary Daly (Rúnai) and Raymond McKeown (Cisteoir) were once again returned unopposed, and it was most encouraging to see so many willing volunteers added to the various sub-committees. Secretary Mary Daly was also honoured with a life-time club membership due to her long and outstanding service. The club is pleased to announce the appointment of Mattie McGleenan as our new senior team manager for 2008. Meanwwhile, four of Moy’s top senior footballers - Colm and Sean Cavanagh, and - have once again been included in the Tyrone County panel for the forthcoming National Football League. Moy and Dromore share the distinction of having the biggest quota of players in the county set-up.

February The opening round of the 2008 Scór Sinsear in Tyrone took place with An Mhaigh G.A.C. represented in both the Amhránaíocht Aonaoir (Solo Singing) and Tráth na gCeisteanna (Question Time). Ryan O’Neill qualified for the next round with a wonderful recital of ‘Only Our Rivers Run Free’ and also had the added honour of singing our National Anthem at the start of proceedings in Eskra. Meanwhile, our quiz team of Kevin Mallon, P.B. Laverty and Colin Mackle missed out on a semi-final place by the narrowest of margins. A large number of club members and friends went back in time when attending an Eighties Theme Night and Fancy Dress Disco in Loughran’s Bar, Moy. The event was a resounding success and raised an excellent sum of money for the club. Everyone who came along on the night entered into the spirit of the occasion by dressing up as their favourite 1980s Pop Idol, Film Star, Sports Personality or Television Icon. In the absence of regular team captain , Moy player Philip Jordan had the honour of leading his county out for the start of the National Football League competition. Moy ladies footballer Nina Murphy was a member of the victorious UUJ team which won the prestigious Dowd Cup in Belfast. She was a key attacker for her University throughout the campaign, producing a series of terrific displays in a competition that featured some of the finest student ladies footballers from across . Nina also celebrates being named along with her club colleagues Patricia Conroy and Eimear McKearney on the Tyrone county senior squad for 2008. P.B.’s Bar, Moy provided the setting for the official An Mhaigh Tír na nÓg G.A.C. Centenary Launch Night. It is the first in a series of exciting events to commemorate the 100th birthday of our club’s formation. One of the highlights of the night was the unveiling and presentation of Moy’s new Senior and Reserve team jerseys sponsored by McAvoy Off Site. An enjoyable night ended with a live Irish music session and everyone in attendance was treated to a free supper.

March Moy minor girls had the honour of playing the first match at Pairc Thír na nÓg in 2008 when they entertained Badoney on the opening day of the Under 18 League. Despite putting up a strong challenge in their first competitive game of the season, Moy’s Under 14 league campaign began on a losing note at home to Ardboe. They also go down by a point in Kildress this month. Moy ladies hosted their Annual Pub Quiz in P.B.’s Bar, Moy. Nine teams in all took part in a tremendous battle of wits. Mickey Kavanagh did a fine job as quizmaster and was ably assisted on the night by Ladies Chairman Ryan O’Neill who performed the role of scorekeeper. Eimear McKearney was in Tyrone’s starting line-up for the Ladies N.F.L. Division One match at home to Wexford. It was a dream debut for the Tír na nÓg net-minder as Tyrone cruised to an emphatic 3-23 to 1-6 victory in Trillick. It was with deep regret and sorrow that the officers, players and members of An Mhaigh Tír na nÓg G.A.C. learned of the deaths of two great Moy Gaels. Former playing and committee member Peter McKearney and former committee member and underage manager Seamus Cavanagh passed away at their homes in Street and Redford Park respectively. Nina Murphy became the latest Moy ladies footballer to make her county senior debut when she started for Tyrone in the big National League Division One clash against . She was soon back in the limelight again when achieving All-Ireland glory with the all- conquering University of Ulster, Jordanstown team. Nina and her fellow students completed a clean sweep of college honours when adding the O’Connor Cup to the Freshers Sevens, All- Ireland League and Dowd Cup they had already won this season.

April Moy minor lads got their season off to the best possible start with a stunning seven point victory at home to Stewartstown in the league. They then dropped their first points of the season when falling at home to Aghaloo before bouncing back with a tremendous three point victory away to Galbally and hard earned draw away to Brocagh. Our minor ladies produced an heroic display at Pairc Thír na nÓg to record their first league win of the season against Stewartstown. The Tír na nÓg girls also turned on the style against the same opposition less than a week later to advance to the semi-finals of the championship. Unfortunately, Moy’s brave bid to reach the minor championship decider ended in disappointment when Edendork proved too strong at Pairc Eadain na dTorc. Club members were saddened to learn of the death of Mrs Rose Daly, mother of our esteemed Club Secretary and lifetime honorary member Mary. It was a disappointing start to the Division Two All-County League for Moy reserves as they lost away to Greencastle on a scoreline of 2-4 to 2-13. They also ended up on the losing side at home to Killeeshil before edging out Moortown at the loughshore to record their first win. Moy’s Under 14 Championship hopes were brought to an end with a dramatic extra-time defeat to near neighbours Eglish. They were also in league action, losing at home to a much bigger Stewartstown team and then savouring their first competitive victory of the season away to Ardboe. Meanwhile, Pairc Thír na nÓg was the venue for some exciting Grade Two action in the Tir Eoghain Feile Peile Na nOg as Moy’s Under 14 players made it through to the Group Four Final following victories over Aghaloo and Killeeshil in Section A. As part of our ongoing Centenary celebrations, An Mhaigh G.A.C. hosted a night of music, song and dance in Moy Parochial Hall. Giving great performances at this special Irish Cultural Concert were: Collegeland Youth Band; Omagh St Enda’s Solo Singer Caoilin McEnhill; Moy Set Dancers; Brantry C.C.E. Instrumental Group; Terence Conlon (Recitation); Eglish G.A.C. Novelty Act; Collegeland Dancers; An Port Mor C.C.E. Instrumental Group; The Moy Inn’s Instrumental Group; and Omagh St. Enda’s Ceili Dance Group. Moy senior footballers did not get off to the start they had hoped for in Division Two of the Tyrone All-County League when losing at home to Killeeshil by two points, but got off the mark thanks to a much improved display away to previously unbeaten Moortown. An Mhaigh player won a medal when helping University of Ulster, Jordanstown defeat Garda College in the final of the prestigious All-Ireland Senior Colleges Competition at Carlow. An understrength Moy Girls Under 14 team travelled to Coalisland for their first league match of the season and lost out in a decent game of football. Moy ladies footballers Rionach Laverty, Maeve McKearney, Frances Bigley and Leona Gallagher all turned in five star displays for the Tyrone camogie team in the Ulster Final victory over Monaghan at An Port Mór.

May Moy senior footballers suffered a further setback in their quest for league honours when losing away to last season’s All-Ireland Junior finalists Rock in a contentious contest, but fared much better away to Greencastle when winning by four points. It took a terrific performance by the Moy men to defeat high-flying Pomeroy at home, before the long trip to Urney saw the Tír na nÓgs come away with two more crucial league points. The month ended with our seniors staging a stunning second half comeback to squeeze the narrowest of victories over an in-form Stewartstown side in Division Two. An Mhaigh reserves also shot up the Division 2 table with slender victories against Rock (away), Pomeroy (home) and Urney (away) to leap into third place in the table. Marty Conroy’s charges then made it five wins in a row towards the end of the month when defeating Stewartstown at home in a high scoring affair. Moy minors bowed out of the Grade Three Championship when losing away to Trillick on a scoreline of 2-9 to 4-8 and an understrength team also fell to a 1-11 to 5-8 defeat away to Derrytresk in the league. Our Under 14s finally came good in Grade Three, turning in another stylish display to beat Rock away on a scoreline of 4-6 to 0-13 and defeating Kildress at home to keep up their challenge for a place in the knock-out stages of the league. They maintained their impressive form to score an emphatic win at home to Rock and get the better of Kildress in the first of their play-off games. An Mhaigh youth footballer Eunan Deeney was selected on the finalised Tyrone Under 16 Development squad while the club’s number one supporter, John McGurk, marked the occasion of his fortieth birthday. Our senior ladies footballers set off for Castlewellan in county Down to take part in a prestigious 7-a-side competition involving some big name clubs from all over Ulster. There was disappointment, however, in their opening match in Division One of the Senior Ladies League as visitors Glenelly emerged victorious by the riverbank. After losing at home to Coalisland in the first round of the championship, Moy Under 14 Girls celebrated their first league victory of the season thanks to a wonderful all round team display away to Stewartstown. Pairc Thír na nÓg, An Mhaigh was the venue for Section G of the Tyrone Go Games Under 10 Blitz 2. Two Moy teams took part but struggled against strong opposition. Work continued on our new training field adjacent to the main playing pitch at Pairc Thír na nÓg. This major development is one of many which took place at our club grounds in recent months. Moy Under 18 girls rounded off their league campaign with a really good performance at home to league and championship winners Sigersons. Although the Tír na nÓg cailini lost in the end to very strong opposition, their managers were very proud of the way the team played in this game and throughout the season. An Mhaigh underage footballer Grace McCormack won an Ulster Championship medal as a member of the victorious St. Catherine’s College, Armagh squad which defeated St. Genieve’s, Belfast in the final of the Ulster Schools Under 14 competition.

June Our Centenary celebrations continued in full swing as a large number of traditional Irish music and dance enthusiasts gathered at Moy Parochial Hall for a special Ceili Night. Meanwhile, Moy minors travelled to the home of league leaders Rock and won this vital match with ten points to spare. Despite a narrow defeat away to Ardboe in the second of their league play-off matches, An Mhaigh Under 14 boys qualified for the quarter-finals of the league where they caused a massive upset, winning away to near neighbours Eglish by three points. Their hopes of reaching the Final were dashed at Killeeshil, though, as favourites Stewartstown came out on top. Pairc Thír na nÓg was buzzing as Moy met Kildress in the first round of the Under 12 Go Games. A sizeable number of people turned up on another beautiful summer’s evening to witness a feast of football entertainment. After losing at home to An Charraig Mhor in the league, Moy senior ladies team met St Dympna’s in the opening round of the Championship at Kildress. This vital game ended in victory for the strongly fancied Dromore team, and there was more disappointment in the semi- finals of the Senior ‘B’ Championship at Loughmacrory as Moy lost to Glenelly. In the Girls Under 14 League, Moy suffered defeat away to Drumquin before doing themselves proud with a fantastic display at home to Fintona. Their season ended in dramatic fashion at Augher when losing by two points in extra-time to a very strong Drumquin side in the league play-offs. Moy Under 12 Girls got their league campaign off to a flying start with an excellent display of football against visiting Ardboe. Every member of the Moy squad got a run out in this game which saw the home side record a really good win. The St John’s Primary School Parents’ Support Group held their annual Senior Football Tournament in Moy. With so many talented players and well known figures taking part, it proved to be another memorable sporting occasion at Pairc Thír na nÓg. An Mhaigh’s victorious under 8 players returned home with the winning trophy from the prestigious Brian McGreevy Memorial Tournament in Clonduff. Moy youth players Stephen Beaddie and cousins Peter and Ryan Mallon were members of the Tyrone Under 17 Development Trial team that played a select side from Down in Pairc Esler, Newry. At a very wet and windy Tattyreagh, An Mhaigh senior footballers produced a gritty display to pick up two more important league points while our reserves maintained their winning form in Division Two when they had six points to spare over a youthful Tatts team. The Tyrone County Fleadh was held in Moy and one of the major highlights was the large parade through the village. Each of our youth teams, male and female, along with members of our ladies senior football squad and various team mentors were among those who took part. Moy Under 18 girls went on an end-of-season-trip to Dundonald Ice Bowl, while our Under 16 boys opened their league campaign with a facile win at home to Clogher.

July Moy senior team survived a really tough first round challenge by Moortown in the opening game of this year’s Intermediate Championship at O’Neill Park, Dungannon. They trailed for most of the match but came good when it mattered most to win by three points. An Mhaigh Under 16s slipped to their first league defeat when going down by just one point away to Eskra, but recovered well to record an impressive win at home to Killeeshil. Over 100 local kids attended the 2008 Club Tyrone/Vhi GAA Summer Camp at Pairc Thír na nÓg in Moy. Moy ladies senior team made the short journey to Dungannon seeking their first win in this season’s All-County League Division One. However, it was high-flying Aodh Ruadh who won comfortably in the end to maintain their challenge for league honours. An Mhaigh minors played host to Tattyreagh in the Teamtalk Grade Three Football League quarter-finals and won on a scoreline of 2-11 to 2-10. It turned out to be a really tough battle as both teams fought tooth and nail from the outset to gain the upperhand.

August Moy juvenile footballer Eunan Deeney was a member of the Tyrone team which lost out to Donegal in the Buncrana Cup decider after savouring victory over neighbours Armagh in the semi-final. Donal Jordan was the club’s Unsung Hero for the month of August. Meanwhile, our club referee Simon Brady took charge of the Grade Three Minor Football Championship Final between Derrytresk and Stewartstown at Coalisland. The club’s Centenary Photo-Shoot at Pairc Thír na nÓg proved to be a big success. Past and present members, players and their families turned out in large numbers to be a part of this exciting and unique event to mark the 100th birthday of An Mhaigh G.A.C. Moy Under 16s returned to league action when proving much too strong for a gallant Clogher side but found the going much tougher at home to Brackaville in a cracking contest which ended with the young Sky Blues finishing on the wrong end of a 1-10 to 3-7 scoreline. Colm, Philip, Ryan, Sean and the entire Tyrone squad and management received huge praise for an amazing performance against hot favourites in the All-Ireland S.F.C. Quarter-Final at Croke Park. An Mhaigh hopes of winning this season’s reserve league title were boosted when the team edged out previously unbeaten Gortin in a five goal thriller at Pairc Thír na nÓg. Moy’s promising young Under 12 players were defeated by Dungannon in the latest round of Go Games but did very well to reach the semi-finals of the Clogher Tournament just a few days afterwards. Eimear, Nina and the Tyrone ladies senior football squad were congratulated on their tremendous victory over Leinster champions Dublin in the All-Ireland Quarter-Final at Hyde Park, Roscommon.

September Our Centenary Year was brought to the attention of a nationwide audience as the producers of popular RTE programme ‘The Road To Croker’ selected An Mhaigh G.A.C. to be their host club for one of the shows. It was a huge honour for our club to welcome Des Cahill and all the crew to Moy for this prestigious production. Moy’s long winning run in the Reserve All-County League Division Two came to end in Eskra as the home side threw the formbook out of the window to claim an unlikely victory. A one point defeat away to Edendork also proved a major blow in the quest for league glory. An Mhaigh Under 16s were in league action twice, drawing at home to Ardboe and winning away to Killeeshil 48 hours later to book their place in the knock-out stages of the competition. Unfortunately, depleted by injuries and suspension, our boys lost to a very strong Greencastle team away in the quarter-finals of the league. Meanwhile, there was high drama in the juvenile championship as Moy drew at home to a fancied Drumragh side in the quarter-finals and then upset all the odds to win the replay on Drumragh’s home patch by four points. Moy Under 12’s played three matches in the Clonduff Tournament and were rather unfortunate to be knocked out on points difference. The Moy boys won two of their games with their only defeat coming against eventual winners Burren. They then rounded off their season by travelling to Lurgan and took part in the annual Clann Eireann G.A.C. Tournament. Moy Under 10’s travelled to the home of Kilkeel club, An Riocht, to take part in the Annual Jim Mulholland Tournament. Liam Lynch and Gerry Fearon’s young charges progressed to the shield competition after two draws and two defeats in the round robin stages. Colm, Philip, Ryan, Sean and the entire Tyrone squad and management secured their passage through to this year’s All-Ireland S.F.C. Final with an impressive victory over Wexford, while Therese McKearney was An Mhaigh G.A.C.’s Unsung Hero for the month of September. Another of our special club Centenary events took place with the hosting of the John Harvey Cup and Shield Under 12 Tournament in Moy. Pairc Thír na nÓg was the place to be as teams from a number of Ulster counties took part in an action-packed day of underage football. Then, for the second weekend in succession, An Mhaigh’s Youth Committee hosted another underage extravaganza as scores of young Under 8 and 10 players from various parts of Ulster provided a feast of football entertainment for the large numbers of people in attendance. Eimear, Nina and the Tyrone ladies senior football squad lost out to reigning champions Cork in the All-Ireland Senior Championship Semi-Final at Tullamore, but spirits were lifted when Sean Cavanagh collected his sixth Ulster GAA Irish News All-Star award. Moy teams were well represented at the special Collegeland G.A.C. Fun Day to mark the official re-opening of their splendid hall and pavilion. Meanwhile, two of Moy’s girls teams took part in a special Fun Day hosted by our neighbouring club Clonmore. Our Under 16 cailini and our Under 10 girls were both involved in terrific games with the host club. A special Table Quiz, to raise money for All-Ireland Final decorations, took place in P.B.’s Bar. The event was a big success with scores of local Gaels turning up to pit their wits against eachother and at the same time show their support for our county sides ahead of the All- Ireland Senior and Minor Football Finals. There was a feeling of immense pride around the Moy as four of our club representatives played a huge part in Tyrone’s All-Ireland Senior Football Final triumph at Croke Park. Philly Jordan was once again outstanding at wing half back and fully deserved his recent All-Star nomination. Ryan Mellon was a late call-up to the starting team and impressed from the outset at wing half forward, scoring a superb point early in the second half. Sean Cavanagh produced another Man of the Match display at full forward, top scoring with five fabulous points from play, while his younger brother Colm crowned a truly memorable day by coming on as a second half substitute and scoring the final point in this year’s championship. An Mhaigh were one of 48 high profile clubs from across the country in action at this year’s O’Neills Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Football 7-a-side competition. A sizeable number of Moy people made their way to the capital early on All-Ireland Final weekend to see the Tír na nÓgs in action. Despite missing four of our top players, who were involved the following day at Croke Park, An Mhaigh did compete well in the group and produced some fine football in front of a large number of spectators. An Mhaigh senior footballers made a welcome return to league action for the first time in three months when they played host to Edendork in Division Two. The home team produced a solid second half display to win by five points.

October The Moy was struck by football championship fever as our senior squad prepared to take on Trillick in the Tyrone Intermediate Final at Carrickmore. The Tír na nÓgs booked their place in this year’s decider by overcoming terrible weather conditions in Clogher to defeat Eskra by three points in the quarter-finals and then having five points to spare over Derrylaughan thanks to a superb second half display at Coalisland in the last four. Unfortunately, the Moy’s long wait for a senior or intermediate championship title would continue for at least another year following a frustrating final defeat at Carrickmore. On a wet and blustery day at Pairc Colmcille, it was Trillick who emerged victorious from a low scoring but hard fought contest to raise aloft the much sought after Paddy Cullen Cup. There was more championship heartache for Moy Gaels to endure when our reserve team lost in agonising fashion in a dramatic quarter-final replay that went to extra-time. Trillick once again proved a thorn in our side as they ended our championship aspirations with a somewhat fortunate late strike to claim victory at Clonmore. Earlier in the month, An Mhaigh reserves had defeated Moortown by three points in a cracking first round encounter at Pairc Thír na nÓg, and drawn with hot favourites Trillick away in an epic quarter-final tussle which also went to extra-time. Trillick came from behind at the end of normal time to snatch a draw and then relied on a last gasp goal in extra-time to force a replay. Moy’s gallant Under 16 team also suffered heartbreak in the semi-finals of the Grade Three Championship when losing by the narrowest of margins to pre-match favourites Brackaville at rain-swept O’Neill Park, Dungannon. An Mhaigh’s long awaited minor league semi-final against Glenelly ended in heartbreak at Dungannon as the young Sky Blues fell to a five point defeat. The result was a major disappointment for Moy who led for much of this contest and looked the better team for long periods. An Mhaigh pair Philip Jordan and Sean Cavanagh brought further honour to their club and county when receiving football All-Star awards at a glittering ceremony in the City West Hotel, Dublin. Sean also received the Footballer of the Year award at the All-Star ceremony, and it was just reward for an amazing season in the Tyrone shirt. 2008 just kept getting better and better for Moy senior team skipper Sean Cavanagh, who was named as captain of the Ireland International Rules squad. It was a proud moment for everyone in the Moy to see Sean lead out the Ireland squad in the International Rules First Test in Perth, Australia. Geraldine Fox was our club’s Unsung Hero of the Month for October.

November A general meeting was held in the Tír na nÓg clubrooms for all those interested in the organisation and running of ladies football in Moy next season. The committee, players and members of An Mhaigh Tír na nÓg G.A.C. were saddened to learn of the death of Mrs Eileen Donaghy, wife of the late Pat, beloved mother of our former playing and current members Patrick, Liam, Colm, Plunkett, Seanie and Paul, and grandmother of youth playing members Aaron, Steve, Adam, Josh, Jack, Connor, Scott, Lucy and Carmel. Moy and Ireland skipper Sean Cavanagh crowned a wonderful year when leading his country to victory over two tests in the International Rules Series down under. There was immense pride and great emotion felt in both Moy and throughout Tyrone as our captain fantastic overcame the Australian challenge in Melbourne to raise aloft the Cormac McAnallen Cup. The highpoint of An Mhaigh G.A.C.’s Centenary Celebrations took place at Armagh City Hotel when upwards of 600 people gathered for one of the biggest and most significant social occasions ever in our club’s history. This eagerly awaited Gala Night was a truly unforgettable experience and exceeded all expectations. The many weeks and months of planning and hard work by our Gala committee certainly paid off in terrific fashion as Moy Gaels from all corners of the globe gathered in one large banquet hall to officially mark the club’s 100th birthday. The smooth running and overall success of this event was testimony to the organisational skills of the gala committee members who left no stone unturned in their preparations. This bore fruit on the night when everyone in attendance had a wonderful time. A special Centenary Mass to remember the deceased members and friends of An Mhaigh G.A.C. was held in St John’s Church, Moy. A large number of local gaels and friends of our club turned out for what was a truly edifying and enriching experience. Celebrant for the Mass was our Honorary Vice-President Fr. Dermot McCaul S.M.A. Rome, who was joined on the altar by Fr Darragh PP and Fr Hughes CC. Club members, past and present, also took an active part in the Mass and attended a tea reception afterwards in the Parochial Hall. An Mhaigh juvenile team captain Eunan Deeney won a Rannafast Cup medal with his school St Patrick’s Academy, Dungannon. In the final, played at Ardboe, the Academy came from behind at half-time to defeat St Pius, Magherafelt on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-8. A first half substitute, Eunan played an important part in his school’s success. An Mhaigh senior footballers are just one victory away from winning this year’s Tyrone All-County League Division Two title after overcoming Dungannon (away), Clan na nGael (away), Eskra (away) and Gortin (home). A run of eleven successive league wins since the start of May saw Mattie McGleenan’s men move to the top of the division two table for the first time this season, leapfrogging long-time leaders Clann na nGael. Peter Loughran was our club’s Unsung Hero of the Month for November.

December An Runai Mary Daly was our club’s Unsung Hero for the month of December. Mary is of course one of the Moy’s leading GAA figures and well known for her long and outstanding service to the club. An Mhaigh senior players Sean Cavanagh, Philip Jordan and Padraig Laverty were all nominated for the Tyrone GAA Teamtalk All-Star football team for 2008. Sean was also nominated for the Tyrone County Footballer of the Year, while Moy ladies footballer Susan McCann was once again nominated for the Camogie Player of the Year award. The Moy Parochial Hall was packed to capacity for this year’s An Mhaigh G.A.C. Youth Presentations. Each of our underage boys and girls teams turned out in force for the event. Special guests Philip Jordan and Ryan Mellon presented the various awards. Specially commissioned certificates were also presented to all those who played on Moy’s underage teams in 2008. Our club’s Centenary Book, documenting over 100 years of gaelic games and culture in Moy and the parish of Clonfeacle, was officially unveiled. This 500 page plus publication, which culminated in many months of research and hard work, tells the story of our club’s proud history and features names and pictures of countless people who have contributed to the success story that has been An Mhaigh Tír na nÓg G.A.C. since 1908. An Mhaigh senior footballers ensured that our club’s Centenary Year would have a happy ending as they captured the Tyrone All-County League Division Two Cup by defeating Ulster Champions Trillick 1-8 to 0-6 in a titanic top-of-the-table clash at Pairc Thír na nÓg. After picking up the BBC NI Sports Personality of the Year award during his All-Star trip to San Francisco, Sean Cavanagh crowned an amazing 2008 when accepting the Tyrone All- County League Division Two Cup as captain of An Mhaigh Tír na nÓg. It was a huge honour for our club to host this year’s Tyrone GAA County Convention. The annual gathering of the various County Board officers and club delegates from all over Tyrone took place in the comfortable surroundings of the Ryandale, Moy.
