DECEMBER 7 American Legion remembers Pearl Harbor By Mike Steely [email protected]

For many of us the attacks on 9/11 may be the most tragic event in our memory of U.S. history. The “Greatest Generation” has a second tragic date to remember, December 7. On December 7, 1941 at 7:55 a.m. Hawaiian time, the nation of Japan attacked and crippled our mili- tary in Pearl Harbor. This year, on Friday, December 7 at 12:55 p.m. in Knoxville, the American Legion Post 2 will hold a Remembrance Day Service at the State Veterans Cemetery on Lyons View Pike. Knoxville Association performs at last year’s Christmas concert at the Fountain City Library. The 12:55 time is important because that’s what time it was in East Tennessee when the attack hap- pened.
