BHMS Final Year 212 3 PREFACE The curriculum of subject is described as a throbbing pulse of a nation. By viewing curriculum one can judge the stage of development and its pace of socio-economic development of a nation. With the advent of new technology, the world has turned into a global village. In view of tremendous research taking place world over new ideas and information pours in like of a stream of fresh water, making it imperative to update the curricula after regular intervals, for introducing latest development and innovation in the relevant field of knowledge. In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 3 Sub-Section 2 (ii) of Act of Parliament No. X of 1976 titled “Supervision of Curricula and Textbooks and Maintenance of Standard of Education” the erstwhile University Grants Commission was designated as competent authority to develop review and revise curricula beyond Class-XII. With the repeal of UGC Act, the same function was assigned to the Higher Education Commission under its Ordinance of 2002 Section 10 Sub-Section 1 (v). In compliance with the above provisions, the HEC undertakes revamping and refurbishing of curricula after regular intervals in a democratic manner involving universities/DAIs, research and development institutions and local Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The intellectual inputs by expatriate Pakistanis working in universities and R&D institutions of technically advanced countries are also invited to contribute and their views are incorporated where considered appropriate by the National Curriculum Revision Committee (NCRC). To bring international compatibility to qualifications held from Pakistani universities/DAIs for promotion of students mobility and job seekers around the globe, a Committee comprising of Conveners of the National Curriculum Revision Committee of HEC met in 2009 and developed a unified template for standardized 4-years/8-semesters BS degree programmes. This unified template was aimed to inculcate broader base of knowledge in the subjects like English, Sociology, Philosophy, Economics etc in addition to major discipline of study. The Bachelor of Homeo Pathic Medical Sceinces (BHMS) degree course requires to be completed in 5-years/10-semesters, and shall require qualifying of 176 credit hours. In line with above, NCRC comprising senior university faculty and experts from various stakeholders and the respective accreditation councils has finalized the curriculum of (BHMS). The same is being 4 recommended for adoption by the universities/DAIs channelizing through relevant statutory bodies of the universities. PROF. DR. ALTAF ALI G. INTRODUCTION The method was fully validated for the determination of aconitine from whole blood samples and applied in two cases of fatal poisoning. Plants of the genus Aconitum L (family of Ranunculaceae) are known to be among the most toxic plants of the Northern Hemisphere and are widespread across Europe, Northern Asia and North America. Two plants from this genus are of particular importance: the blue-blooded Aconitum napellus L. (monkshood) which is cultivated as an ornamental plant in Europe and the yellow-blooded Aconitum vulparia Reich. (wolfsbane) which is commonly used in Asian herbal medicine1 (Figure 1). Many of the traditional Asian medicine preparations utilise both the aconite tubers and their processed products for their pharmaceutical properties, which include anti-inflammatory, analgesic and cardio- Figure 1: Aconitum napellus (monkshood) (A) and tonic effects2-4. In this work, a hypothesis concerning the mystifying question about this action is proposed. The hypothesis suggests that any pathology, either functional or structural, can be detected in the change of the overall energy of the human body. Such energy is constituted by fields of force according to quantum physics. More precisely, every disturbance of the human organism affects the spin on electrons of different elements within the human body, and their reset could take place with an agent similar to the electromagnetic force that created the problem. This statement has been proved by the correct homeopathic treatments, as it can be seen in many published cases. The hypothesis is based on two approaches, the idea of the spin of electrons and the vital force, and their scientific relevance. Keywords: Electron spin, vital force, electromagnetic influences, levels of health, homeopathy. Introduction of molecules, the materials or larger structures [4, 6].

Summary An assessment of safety considerations with respect to human usage of complementary medicine preparations made from the substance Aconite (any part of the plant Aconitum napella, otherwise known as Monkshood), has been undertaken. The available toxicological data was reviewed, and levels of intake of the known toxic constituents, the alkaloids aconitine, mesaconitine and jesaconitine, known to be associated with adverse effects and possible fatality in humans, were determined. From this assessment, concentration levels of the known toxic alkaloids below which no toxic effects would normally be associated with their internal ingestion or use, was determined. Levels of ingestion of these toxic components which could normally be deemed as completely safe, were then ascertained. This assessment was then applied to an evaluation of homoeopathic Aconite-containing preparations available in the marketplace, to select ‘cut off points’ below which general sales classification is deemed appropriate. These calculations were based upon both concentration levels of the toxic alkaloids, as well as the maximum recommended pack size of preparations containing them. Aconite: an introduction Aconite (a preparation made from either the roots or herb of the European shrub Aconitum napellus, or other Aconitum species ), has long been used both as a traditional herbal medicine as well as a homoeopathic remedy.

This note also encompasses how Homeopathic Infinitesimals Drugs Dilution Doctrine embodies the inherent built-in character to impress in perceiving that Homeopathy kernel is much more beyond Nano-Medicine concepts in allopathy with respect to the up-coming modern knowledge frontiers. Today, Homeopathy being an Excellent Medical System is an Alternative or Complimentary Medicine, especially for Common, Chronic, Terminal, Supposed to be incurable and Non-surgical diseases. Concept of nanopharmacology is in itself a holistic reflection of homeopathy kernel. Nanopharmacological doses deeply penetrate into cells and are hypersensitive to the specific medicinal substance. Normal doses of Atropine blocks parasympathetic nerves mucous membranes to dry up, while exceedingly small dose-administration increase secretions. Repeated small doses only influence biological systems. Smaller homeopathic doses with longer lasting effects do not require repetition of dosages. A DANGEROUS ART: GREEK PHYSICIANS AND MEDICAL RISK IN IMPERIAL ROME DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Molly Ayn Jones Lewis, B.A., M.A. ********* The Ohio State University May, 2009 Dissertation Committee: Duane W. Roller, Advisor Approved by Julia Nelson Hawkins __________________________________ Frank Coulson Advisor Greek and Latin Graduate Program Fritz Graf Copyright by Molly Ayn Jones Lewis 2009 ABSTRACT Recent scholarship of identity issues in Imperial Rome has focused on the complicated intersections of “Greek” and “Roman” identity, a perfect microcosm in which to examine the issue in the high-stakes world of medical practice where physicians from competing Greek-speaking traditions interacted with wealthy Roman patients. I argue that not only did Roman patients and politicians have a variety of methods at their disposal for neutralizing the perceived threat of foreign physicians, but that the foreign physicians also were given ways to mitigate the substantial dangers involved in treating the Roman elite. I approach the issue from three standpoints: the political rhetoric surrounding foreign medicines, the legislation in place to protect doctors and patients, and the ethical issues debated by physicians and laypeople alike. I show that Roman lawmakers, policy makers, and physicians had a variety of ways by which the physical, political, and financial dangers of foreign doctors and Roman patients posed to one another could be mitigated. The dissertation argues that despite barriers of xenophobia and ethnic identity, physicians practicing in Greek traditions were fairly well integrated into the cultural milieu of imperial Rome, and were accepted (if not always trusted) members of society.

Yang et al. BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine (2016) 16:214 DOI 10.1186/s12906-016-1201-2 RESEARCHARTICLE Open Access Anti-allodynic effect of intrathecal processed Aconitum jaluense is associated with the inhibition of microglial activation and P2X7 receptor expression in spinal cord Jihoon Yang1,3†, Keun Suk Park2†, Jae Joon Yoon2, Hong-Beom Bae2,3, Myung Ha Yoon2,3 and Jeong Il Choi2,3* Abstract Background: For their analgesic and anti-arthritic effects, Aconitum species have been used in folk medicine in some East Asian countries. Although their analgesic effect is attributed to its action on voltage-dependent sodium channels, they also suppress purinergic receptor expression in dorsal root ganglion neurons in rats with neuropathic pain. In vitro study also demonstrated that the Aconitum suppresses ATP-induced P2X7 receptor (P2X7R)-mediated inflammatory responses in microglial cell lines. Herein, we examined the effect of intrathecal administration of thermally processed Aconitum jaluense (PA) on pain behavior, P2X7R expression and microglial activation in a rat spinal nerve ligation (SNL) model. Methods: Mechanical allodynia induced by L5 SNL in Sprague-Dawley rats was measured using the von Frey test to evaluate the effect of intrathecal injection of PA. Changes in the expression of P2X7R in the spinal cord were examined using RT-PCR and Western blot analysis. In addition, the effect of intrathecal PA on microglial activation was evaluated by immunofluorescence. Results: Intrathecal PA attenuated mechanical allodynia in a dose-dependent manner showing both acute and chronic effects with 65 % of the maximal possible effect. The expression and production of spinal P2X7R was increased five days after SNL, but daily intrathecal PA injection significantly inhibited the increase to the level of naïve animals.
