HANDICAP INTERNATIONAL ACTVITIES :

1. Dohuk governorate :

General information

‐ 409 individuals have been assessed in Dohuk governorate between the 28th of june and the 20th of august.

‐ 260 individuals had been assessed in 21 different locations until the events of the 3rd‐7th; a large part of them moved to a different location. Here is their new situation (see table 1: Situation of the individuals displaced following the events of the 3rd‐7th of august, Dohuk).

‐ On these 260 individuals assessed in Dohuk governorate, 78 (30%) are back to Najaf, , and Hella, in “hard to reach” areas; we lost trace of 24 (9%) of them.

‐ 149 new individuals have been assessed since the events of the 3rd‐7th of August in Bajd Kandala, Khanki, Sharya and .

Dohuk response:

‐ 39 wheelchairs donated by WHO have been distributed in Bajd Kandala, Zakho, Shekhan, Garwama, Sharya, Amedi, Khanki, , Dohuk and Bandawa between the 23th of july and the 20th of august 2014.

‐ 10 transportations for 6 individuals have been organized to the Early detection of childhood disability center, the diabetes center, the eye center, the oncology unit of the Azadi teaching hospital and the prosthetic center.

‐ 6 letter of agreement were signed with 6 health structures and specialized centers : o Early detection of childhood disability center; o Thalassemia disease center; o The Diabetes center; o The center for rehabilitation and prosthetic limbs; o The Azadi teaching hospital (oncology center); o Pediatrics Heevi hospital.

‐ 23 cases are closed; we lost trace of 24 individuals; 1 beneficiary died.

2. governorate

General information

‐ 220 individuals have been assessed in between the 23rd of july 2014 and the 20th of august 2014.

‐ 89 had been assessed in Khazir camp until the events of the 3rd‐7th; a large part of them moved to a different location. Here is their new situation (see table 2: Situation of the individuals displaced following the events of the 3rd‐7th of august, Erbil).

‐ On these 89 individuals assessed in Khazir camp, 33 (37%) are back to Mosul, Kirkuk, Karabala, Baghdad, in “hard to reach” areas; we lost trace of 18 (20%) of them.

‐ 131 new individuals have been assessed since the events of the 3rd‐7th of August in Ankawa and Bahirka camp. ‐ 24 wheelchairs donated by WHO have been distributed in St Joseph church, Ankawa high school for girls, the youth center, the Assyrian youth union and in other IDPs sites in Ankawa (under construction building, Kazer street, etc.) between the 11th and the 14th of august 2014.

‐ 2 wheelchairs have been distributed in the Emergency hospital of Erbil.

‐ 36 adult diapers were distributed.

‐ 4 transportations have been organized for 1 individual (East emergency hospital, accommodation, psychiatrist visit).

3. Other information

‐ We are in the process of buying new equipment (mobility aids/specific items) and will start distributing them next week. 2 physiotherapists joined the HI team in Dohuk, 2 in Erbil, to give physiotherapy sessions and assist our team in the distribution of equipment.

‐ 7 organizations have received technical support in the drawing/design of latrines, squat toilets and shelter, the inclusiveness and access of people with disabilities to the activities and distributions (food, NFI, specific items).

A. Information regarding the access to basic needs services

The access to basic needs services is measured by our team and is based on their discussions with the person assessed and on their appreciation of the situation.

Please note that our information concerns only the people with disabilities, injuries, chronic diseases and the people in situation of extreme vulnerability; their access to basic needs services depends on the availability of the service, but also on its physical access, the financial situation of the individual, the community support, and the availability of information regarding the services available.

456 individuals with disabilities, injuries, chronic diseases and in situation of extreme vulnerability have been assessed between the 26th of june and the 13th of august 2014.

2. Situation on the new locations assessed (since the events of the 3rd‐7th of august)

Name of the location : Bajd Kandala 41 individuals with disabilities, injuries, chronic diseases and in situation of extreme vulnerability have been assessed between the 10th and the 12th of august 2014.

On the 46 individuals assessed in Zakho, 36 (77%) are living in schools.

Name of the location : Ankawa, Erbil governorate 13 individuals with disabilities, injuries, chronic diseases and in situation of extreme vulnerability have been assessed between the 9th and the 10th of august 2014, in St Joseph church and Ankawa school for girls.
