He leaves behind a multitude of legacies certain never to be replicated. Whether it was his unparalleled career in college athletics as an athlete, coach, athletic administrator and broadcaster, or his Broyles, SEC 1944 Player of the Year, handled all the passing (left) and punting (right) from his tailback spot playing for Georgia Tech under legendary Coach tireless work in the fourth quarter of his life Bobby Dodd as an Alzheimer’s advocate, his passion was always the catalyst for changing the world around him for the better, delivered with a smooth Southern drawl. He felt he was blessed to work for more than 55 years in the only job he ever wanted, first as head football coach and then as athletic director at the University of Arkansas. Dec. 5, 2017 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Steve Richardson [email protected] 214-870-6516 EIGHT FINALISTS NAMED FOR 2017 EDDIE ROBINSON AWARD NEW YORK (FWAA) – The Football Writers Association of America, in conjunction with the Allstate Sugar Bowl, announced eight finalists for the 2017 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award during a National Football Foundation news conference at the New York Hilton Midtown. In alphabetical order the eight finalists are:Bill Clark, UAB; Scott Frost, UCF; Lane Kiffin, Florida Atlantic; Jeff Monken, Army; Lincoln Riley, Oklahoma; Kirby Smart, Georgia; Dabo Swinney, Clemson; and Jeff Tedford, Fresno State. “We have an excellent group of finalists who stretch from the East Coast to the West Coast and represent a cross-section of conferences in the Football Bowl Subdivision,” the FWAA’s 2017 President Dave Jones said. “Some of these coaches will be competing for the College Football Playoff national title. Others represent remarkable building of programs and turnarounds.” There are no previous “Eddie” winners in the group, and Swinney is the only previous finalist for one of college football’s most prestigious coaching awards. The winner will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 14. “The Allstate Sugar Bowl is proud to have the opportunity to recognize the top college football coaches in the nation while at the same time honoring Louisiana legend Eddie Robinson,” said Stanley Cohn, President of the Sugar Bowl Committee. “We’re looking forward to presenting this prestigious trophy to the winner in Atlanta this January.” The finalists were placed on a ballot which is being sent out to the entire FWAA membership this morning. -

It is also tied with Oklahoma for the longest active streak in the country. Head Coach Urban Meyer is now 16-5 all-time against ranked opponents, 14-5 at Florida. UF did not lose to an SEC East team this year and has gone undefeated against division teams 10 times in school history. USC remained unable to notch a win in Gainesville, as it is now 0-12 all-time. Florida increased its series lead to 22-4-3 overall and has claimed 16 of the last 17 meetings. Steve Spurrier is 1-3 against his former team and has lost the last three consecutive meetings. Prior to today’s game, the most points the Gamecocks had allowed in 2008 were 24 and were allowing only 15.6 points per game. The Gators scored 28 points with a little over 11 minutes to play in the first half. USC was ranked third in the nation in total defense, allowing only 256.5 yards per game. The Gators racked up 519 offensive yards today. The Gamecocks were also fourth in the nation in pass defense, only allowing 155.1 yards/game. The Gators registered 173 passing yards. Prior to today’s game, the Gamecock defense allowed opponents on 101.4 rushing yards per game and 12 rushing touchdowns on the year. -
