Rev. Barry C. Knestout W hen the late Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo established the McMahon Parater Foundation, his intentions were clear: that every parent who wants a Catholic education for their child should encounter no insurmountable obstacles. When cost is the obstacle, we must find a way to remove that obstacle. The Board and staff of McMahon Parater see our efforts as a support for and a participation in the Church’s mission to share the Good News. While the Foundation is about providing a quality education, it is also about bringing young Catholics to a school where their faith is integrated into their academic and character formation, helping students to achieve their goals. Side by side with scholastic efforts are prayer and service to our communities.     Diocesan School Advisory Board 2020-2021 Jeff Caruso (Central Region) Jeff Caruso is the founding director of the Virginia Catholic Conference, established to advance the mutual public-policy interests of the Commonwealth’s Catholic bishops and their two dioceses. Originally from Maryland, Mr. Caruso spent two years practicing law in his native state and then more than six years as one of three associate directors at the Maryland Catholic Conference. In January 2005, he became the first Executive Director of the Conference and opened its office in Richmond, Virginia. Mr. Caruso currently serves on the Catholic Charities USA Social Policy Committee and The Catholic Virginian board, and as a consultant to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Subcommittee for the Promotion and Defense of Marriage. Mr. Caruso graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1993, with a B.S. in Mathematics and Psychology, and from Notre Dame Law School in 1996. He and his family reside in Fredericksburg and belong to St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Rebecca Chaney (Eastern Region) Rebecca Chaney works as a corporate attorney with regulatory compliance for financial services; a position she has held for the last 14 plus years. A staunch advocate for Catholic education having received all of her education through Catholic schools, excluding two semesters during college and law school, while studying abroad in London, England. She attended Holy Trinity School, in Poughkeepsie, NY, from Pre-K through graduation (Class of 1992) and high school at Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Poughkeepsie, NY (Class of 1996). Rebecca attended an all-women’s Catholic college, Regis College, located in Weston, MA (Class of 2000), then law school at The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, Washington, DC (Class of 2003).

    Revised August 2016 PREFACE The staff of the Office of Catholic Schools is pleased to present the revised School Board Handbook. This document is intended to be a useful reference tool for understanding the function, role and relationship of the Catholic School Board. This handbook summarizes the 1982 Diocesan policy statement on School Boards. A Catholic School Board is substantially different from the common concept of a "school board." The Diocesan School Advisory Board, Regional and Parish School Boards are advisory boards. An advisory board is a board that offers advice and counsel to management. The Diocese of Richmond has a long and successful Board history. Clearly, this involvement has contributed to the vitality and stability of each school. In 2013-14, all schools moved into an accreditation process with AdvancED, and all standards for this accreditation are part of the revised Schools Advisory Board Handbook.
