FOOTBALL TEST REVIEW SHEET 1. In order for a touchdown to be counted, the ball must cross the goal line, not just the player. 2. The team can score 2 extra points if they return a blocked extra point. 3. The distance of a football field is 100 yds. 4. 4th down is considered a punting down. The punting down is when you fail to get a first down. 5. To get a first down, a player must move the ball 10 yds. 6. The team receives 3 pts for a field goal. 7. Each team is given 6 timeouts per game; Three each half. 8. The quarterback is an offensive player. 9. The kick after the touchdown is called the extra point; it is worth 1 pt. 10. When a receiver is hit by grabbing the jersey or being pushed while running, while trying to catch a pass, it is called pass interference. 11. When the player returning the punt waves their hand in the air, it is called a fair catch. 12. When a game ends in a tie, it goes into overtime. 13. Each quarter lasts 12 mins. 14. A reception is when the ball is caught on offense. 15. An interception is when the defense catches the ball. 16. When a punt is blocked, it can be advanced for a touchdown. 17. Three major penalties are holding, clipping, and a personal foul. 18. There are 11 players on the field at one time for each team. 19. If the defense recovers a fumble in the offenses end zone, it is a touchdown. -

LV GRIDIRON ADULT FLAG FOOTBALL 5v5 LEAGUE RULES Rules and Regulations RULE 1: THE GAME, FIELD, PLAYERS & EQUIPMENT Section 1 – The Game • No contact allowed. • NO BLOCKING/SCREENING anytime or anywhere on the field. Offensive players not involved with a play down field must attempt to get out of the way or stand still. • A coin toss determines first possession. • Play starts from the 5 yard line. The offensive teams has (3) plays to cross mid-field. Once team crosses mid-field, they will have three (3) plays to score a touchdown. • If the offensive team fails to cross mid-field or score, possession of the ball changes and the opposite team starts their drive from their 5-yard line. • Each time the ball is spotted a team has 25 seconds to snap the ball. • Games consist of 2-15 minute halves. Teams will flip sides at beginning of 2nd half. Half time will be 1 minutes. • Overtime; 1st overtime from 5 line, 2nd overtime if still tied from 10 yard line, 3rd overtime if still tied 15 yard line. After 3rd time if still tied game is scored as a tie. • Spot of ball is location of the ball when play is ruled dead Section 2 – Attire • Teams may use their own flags. • Shirts with numbers are mandatory for stats RULE 2: PLAYERS/GAME SCHEDULES, SCORING & TIME OUTS Section 1 – Players/Game Schedules • If a team or teams are more than 10 minutes late for their scheduled games they will be forfeited. After 10 minutes the game will be forfeited and the score recorded as 10-0. -

American football gained fame as the people wanted to detach themselves from the English influence. The father of this sport Walter Camp altered the shape and size of the ball to an oval-shaped ball called ovoid ball and drawn up some unique set of rules. Objective American Football is played on a four sided ground with goalposts at each end. The two opposing teams are named as the Offense and the Defense, The offensive team with control of the ovoid ball, tries to go ahead down the field by running and passing the ball, while the defensive team without control of the ball, targets to stop the offensive team’s advance and tries to take control of the ball for themselves. The main objective of the sport is scoring maximum number of goals by moving forward with the ball into the opposite team's end line for a touchdown or kicking the ball through the challenger's goalposts which is counted as a goal and the team gets points for the goal. The team with the most points at the end of a game wins. COLLEGE FOOTBALL OFFICIATING, LLC 2020 NCAA FOOTBALL PLAY INTERPRETATIONS BULLETIN NO. 1 Prohibited Field Equipment – Rule 1-4-11 Play #1: The Head Coach of the home team is in quarantine, and wants to monitor the TV broadcast and (a) call in plays via cell phone to the offensive coordinator (b) use a virtual application (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.) to communicate with the team in the locker room. RULING: Rule 1-4-11-b is very specific and allows only voice communications between the press box and the team area, therefore in (a) the coach could not call into the press box or the sideline for anything related to coaching purposes. Rule 1-4-11-a would prohibit the use of technology including computers to be used for coaching purposes and this would include all virtual types of communication back to a team during the game, consequently in (b) any virtual session with the team would not be allowed. This prohibition would begin at 90 minutes before the scheduled kickoff when the officiating crew assumes jurisdiction of the game and would include the time between periods until the end of the game when the Referee declares the score final. Safety – Rule 8-5-1 & Fumble Rule 7-2-2 Exceptions Play #2: 4/Goal @ B8. Runner A44 is hit at the B-5 and fumbles, and B54 bats the grounded loose ball at the B-3 back into his own end zone. A88 sees the loose ball and recovers while the ball is still in the end zone. RULING: Safety, score 2 points for Team A. -

Each autumn season, local communities flock to high school Tgames on Friday nights, cheer on their regional college favorites on Satur- day, and tune in to telecasts of their professional teams on Sundays. This was a norm for years; but football has so overwhelmed the American sportscape that games are now televised virtually every night of the week, and even high school contests are broadcast to a national audience. Both college and professional teams play abroad in search of new markets and this quintessential American sport is now played in more than 100 countries (http://ifaf.org). How did such explosive growth and interest come to pass? Surely the internet has been a factor, as the chapter “American Football and the Media” demonstrates, but this book intends to take a more comprehensive exploration and analysis of this global phenomenon, from its historical roots to its global presence. The game evolved from English soccer to rugby; but assumed its current form in the college rivalries of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The professional var- iety emerged when an urban athletic club, which had bet large sums of money on the outcome of its annual game with a rival team, paid a former All-American from Yale to bolster its chances of winning. Extensive gambling on games resulted in increasing numbers of talented players being paid, eventually resulting in entirely professional teams. -

Scoggin, Executive Director www.EndzoneSportsCharities.org 1994 John Elway “Throwback” Jersey Research General Notes In 1994, the National Football League, in recognition of its' 75th anniversary, celebrated in part, by asking its' member teams to don uniforms paying homage to teams of the past. For a home game in Denver versus the Raiders on September 18th and a road game in Buffalo on September 26th against the Bills, the Broncos wore "throwback" uniforms patterned after the style worn by the 1965 AFL-era team. As these two distinct modern jerseys—one orange home and one white road—were each used for only one game each, it is fair to say that they constitute the rarest of any post-merger-era Broncos jersey style. As was the common practice during the mid-90s, the team equipment staff would likely have prepared two of each jersey for each player on the team's roster at the time —one prepared for game use and one made "game ready" and held in reserve in case the actual game jersey should be damaged beyond repair during play. In theory, for each player who took the field for each of the two games, during the '94 season, there should be a single game-worn/used jersey as well as possibly a single "team-issued" (though not worn/used) jersey. Though possible that exceptions may exist, it would be expected that this would be the standard. Though unconfirmed, it is suspected that at least some of these jerseys may have originated from a lot that was created though a business partnership. -

COLLEGE FOOTBALL OFFICIATING, LLC SIDELINE MANAGEMENT A small minority of coaches continue to come on to the field of play regularly during the course of a game, in clear violation of the rules. This conduct not only interferes with the orderly management of the game, it also creates an unfavorable public perception. The purpose of this memorandum is to review the rules that govern when coaches are allowed on the field of play, and to advise everyone that there will be an emphasis nationally to apply these rules fairly and consistently. The applicable rules are clear: 1. “During the game, coaches…shall not be on the field of play….without permission of the referee.” Rule 9-2-1-b-1 NOTE: Coaches who enter the field of play to question, protest or otherwise demonstrate disagreement with an officiating decision are subject to an immediate 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. This unsportsmanlike conduct foul counts as one of the two leading to disqualification from the game. (Rule 9-2-6) Penalty – Unsportsmanlike conduct. Administer as a dead-ball foul. 15 yards from the succeeding spot. Automatic first down for fouls by Team B. 2. “While the ball is alive and during the continuing action after the ball has been declared dead, coaches…. must be behind the coaching line.” Rule 9-2-5-a Violations of these rules will result in the following progressive penalty protocol: First Occurrence: Official warning Second and Third Occurrences: Delay of Game, 5-yard penalty Subsequent Occurrences: Team Unsportsmanlike Conduct; 15-yard penalty 3. Exceptions to these rules allow coaches to enter the field of play, but only in specific limited situations: After the ball becomes dead, head coaches may enter the field of play to attend to an injured player. -
