DETAILED DESCRIPTION:

This lithography was made by Belgian artist Pierre Alechinsky in 1996, as can be seen at the bottom of the paper. The artwork is framed by an actual frame, as well as an ink frame that goes around the center drawing. The ink frame is a mix of dark and light brown and is decorated by different forms and lings. In the center of the paper an abstract form of two plants can be seen, both in black ink. Flowing in the ‘air’ pieces that seem like abstract wooden blocks are floating around. The lithography is signed at the bottom, the artists’ name, Alechinsky, the title, Terrain Propre, the date, 1996, and the number in the series is written down.

Alechinsky was born in in 1927 and is known for his involvement in the avant- garde CoBrA group. Melding medieval illustrations, folk art and comic-book layouts, many of his works read as mysterious codices. Measurements of this beautiful Lithograph are 87 cm X 102 cm with frame, 55 cm x 70 cm without frame. Alechinsky was the subject of a retrospective at the Museés Royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique in 2007. He currently lives and works in , France.
