Monash University Academy of Performing Arts and Tashmadada present Lee Breuer Intensive Masterclass

Monash University Academy of Performing Arts and Tashmadada invite theatre practitioners to take part in an exciting week of professional development with Lee Breuer and Maude Mitchell. Lee is a founder and co-artistic director of the seminal experimental New York theatre company ; Maude is an associate artist at Mabou Mines, and an award-winning actress. Lee and Maude have been creating work and teaching together internationally for a decade and a half including conducting workshops in: Moscow, Athens, Cairo, Paris, , , Shanghai, Sao Paulo, and Edinburgh.

Over the course of the week participants will have the rare opportunity to engage in:

• Direct mentorship on a creative project of your choice (be prepared to show at least ten minutes of a piece you would like to explore or continue to explore.)

• Intimate discussions with Lee and Maude about directing, acting, writing and creating new work, allowing for first-hand insight into their working processes.

• Engage in talks and view footage of Lee and Maude’s work including historic footage of early productions at Mabou Mines, as well as recent pieces and current work.

CRITERIA

• This intensive master class is aimed at experienced professional theatre practitioners – Actors, Directors, Writers. Designers and Puppeteers are also welcome.

• The master class is open to theatre practitioners nationally.

• The master class is limited to 20 participants.

FEE $800.00 Please note this does not include travel or accommodation costs LEE BREUER A founding co-artistic director of Mabou Mines, Lee Breuer is one of America’s most innovative stage directors, as well as an author, lyricist and teacher. He is perhaps best known for his work as co-adaptor and director of Mabou Mines DollHouse ( for Direction), which has performed to critical acclaim in thirty cities on five continents, including at the Edinburgh Festival in 2007 for which he won the Herald Archangel award for sustained achievement.

Lee has directed thirteen OBIE Award winning performances, and has been the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships including a Chevalier Des Artes et Lettres from the French Ministry of Culture, and the MacArthur Foundation ‘Genius’ Fellowship. He has held positions at Yale University School of Drama, Stanford University, University of California, and Harvard University.

MAUDE MITCHELL Maude Mitchell (Mabou Mines Associate Artist) is an actor, dramaturge and teacher. She graduated from Oberlin College and attended The Neighborhood Playhouse – studying with the great acting teacher and theoretician, Sanford Meisner. She has lent a Meisner oriented approach to workshops conducted with Lee in America, Europe and Asia and was a recipient of a US – Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission to be the first western acting teacher at the Far Eastern Acting Academy in Vladivostok. Maude is also an accomplished dramaturge, Un tramway nommé désir, Mabou Mines DollHouse, and The Laramie Project.
