We’ve seen a noticeable increase in the use of Applications by both students and faculty and thought it might be useful to provide an overview of two in particular, and Google Document. These are just two of a large suite of Google Applications available to the Le Moyne community, along with , Google , YouTube, Sheets, Slides, Sites and many more. The full list of available applications is generally accessed from the App Launcher, a 3 by 3 grid of black squares near your profile in Gmail. If you’re not seeing a particular application simply select More from the menu.

Let’s start by looking at the Google Drive environment. I like to think of Google Drive as a thumb drive in the cloud; and one that has unlimited storage for Google Apps schools such as Le Moyne. Yes, I said unlimited. But then, anyone who has seen my garage would testify that organization becomes king.

My Drive holds all content and allows for a folder structure. Google Drive has organizational tools called Shared with Me, Photos, Recent, and Starred. Not surprisingly, Google Drive also has a powerful search tool with both basic and advanced features. Most people report that a well defined folder structure is key to organization so you might consider setting that up to match the way you think and work currently.

Creating folders is easy, and located here under the New button. As you explore Drive, you’ll also discover the options to upload, download, copy, move, share and many other tasks. Use that right click button to discover a treasure of options..
