Diese Spieler setzen wegen Corona die Saison aus (updatet) Als erster Spieler verkündete Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Right Guard von den Kansas City Chiefs, dass er aufgrund der Risiken der anhaltenden Corona- Pandemie die kommende Saison nicht spielen werde. Damit macht er Gebrauch von der Opt-Out-Möglichkeit, welche von der Spielergewerkschaft ausgehandelt wurde. Seit der Verkündung von Duvernay-Tardif haben sich sieben weitere Spieler ebenfalls dazu entschieden in der kommenden Saison kein Football zu spielen. Es bleibt zu vermuten, dass bis zum 1. August, bis wann sich Spieler entscheiden müssen, ob sie die Opt-Out-Möglichkeit in Anspruch nehmen möchten, die Liste noch länger wird. Spieler, die freiwillig auf die Saison verzichten, erhalten dank dieser Regelung ein Jahresgehalt von $150,000. Spieler, die zur Risikogruppe gehören erhalten sogar $350,000. Folgende Spieler haben sich bereits für diese Möglichkeit entschieden: 1. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Kansas City Chiefs, G Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, hat einen medizinischen Abschluss und möchte während der kommenden Saison lieber Patienten betreuen. 2. De’Anthony Thomas, Baltimore Ravens, WR Thomas gehört nicht zur Risikogruppe und hatte im Frühjahr bei den Ravens einen neuen Vertrag unterschrieben. 3. Chance Warmack, Seattle Seahawks, G Warmack hat 2018 den Super Bowl gewonnen, letztes Jahr aber verletzungsbedingt pausiert. In seiner Familie gab es wohl einen Todesfall aufgrund Covid-19, was ihn vermutlich zu seiner Entscheidung bewogen hat. 4. Maurice Canady, Dallas Cowboys, CB Canady gab mit dem Tweet “Family first money second” bekannt, dass er die kommende Saison nicht spielen wird. 5. Caleb Brantley, Washington Football Team, DL Brantley hat nahezu die komplette letzte Saison verpasst und wird nun auch in der kommenden nicht auf dem Feld zu sehen sein. 6. Najee Toran, New England Patriots, C/G Toran war die letzte Saison im Practice Squad der Patriots und nimmt ebenfalls die Opt-out-Möglichkeit in Anspruch. 7. Danny Vitale, New England Patriots, FB Der Verzicht von Vitale kam überraschend. Er gibt damit seinem Konkurrenten und deutschem Teamkameraden Jakob Johnson gute Chancen auf die Position des Starting Fullback. 8. Marcus Cannon, New England Patriots, OT Als ehemaliger Krebskranker zählt Cannon zur Risikogruppe und verzichtet daher freiwillig auf diese Saison. 9. Dont’a Hightower, New England Patriots, LB 10. The winner of the 2013 award, which is presented by the Na- tional Harlon Hill Award Committee, will be announced at the 28th annual Harlon Hill Trophy Presentation Banquet on Friday, December 20 at the Florence Conference Center at 6:30 p.m. This year’s Hill Trophy Banquet will also include the 15th induction into the Division II Football Hall of Fame. The 2013 Hall of Fame class includes former Valdosta State University quarterback Dusty Bonner, former Jacksonville State Uni- versity tight end Keith McKeller and former Indiana University, Pa., head coach Frank Cignetti.
