2021 Rising Sixth Grade English Summer Reading The Human Condition Through Time and Place

In addition to reading The Wild Robot by Peter Brown, please choose at least one of the following books from this list to read over the summer. You may choose more than one!

Assignment: Print a color copy of the book cover ofthe book from this list that you enjoyed reading the most. Write your best paragraph that describes:

1) What challenges the main character faced and how they were overcome. Roz faced a lot of challenges, such as learning tolive alongside nature and adapting to the new environment. She also faced other robots that were better programmed and upgraded, facing bears, and learning what it means to have a family. 2) Why you enjoyed the book, giving details from the story or characters to support your ideas. I enjoyed reading this book because of how they wroteand ordered every important part. For example, after the storm that Roz barely survived, she looked around to see animals completely fine which gave Roz a motivation to learn their ways. I also like how realistic they made it with The Nest caving in, one of the lodges burning down, and how, no matter what, Roz couldn't beat RECO 1 alone.

I read Counting by 7s by Holly Sloan. This book represents how one person’s life can affect others in such a drastic way. Willow comes home one day to find police cars in front of her house. She comes to find outthat her parents have died in a car accident. This can change the perspective of how peopleview the world from a nice, peaceful place full of beauty to a place of miseryand pain. Willow thought that her life couldn’t continue. She didn’t know what to do. She was stuck in a hole of darkness. In case people look at this I won’t spoil anything else but this story goes deep into how the human’s mind works. A tragic incident changes their perspective on reality. This is a very realistic story as it goes through the entire emotional wheel and makes you hook onto every single event that’s going on. This was a great book because of its realisticism.
