Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

La cantante debutó em 1995 con el álbum Pies Descalzos, un álbum publicado por las disqueras Sony y Columbia Records. Muchas canciones de este álbum resultaron exitosas y muy escuchadas por el mercado hispanoamericano como Pies descalzos sueños blancos, Estoy Aquí y Antología. Por ese entonces, se dio a conocer como una artista de balada pop, con letras dedicadas al amor y al desamor. Podría afirmarse que Shakira impuso una moda, tanto en su imagen con su largo y desalineado pelo negro natural como con su particular tono de voz identificado con las canciones en general de esa época, como también las letras, ritmos y tonos. La simple puesta en escena con una guitarra generó un estilo muy propio y particular, que quizá no haya sido igualado por otras artistas, por lo menos en cuanto a canciones románticas. Con el correr de los años, su estilo musical ha ido cambiando. Sus temas nuevos son un mezcla entre reggaetón y electropop. Shakira ha querido modernizarse y seguir una carrera con un estilo que vende mucho como es el reggaetón, por lo que ha realizado trabajos en conjunto con diferentes exponentes del género.

Its campaign against the dam was successful. And, the project has been halted – for now. The Philippine island of Mindoro is home to tribes that depend on the area's natural resources for food and jobs. Edwin Gariguez became concerned when a European company announced plans to mine for nickel on the island.

Opening artist Bea Miller will take center stage at 7:30 p.m. with R5 at 8:45 p.m. Tickets on sale at www.marylandstatefair.com. “Talk about a great show coming to The Maryland State Fair … this is about as good as it gets when it comes to family-oriented entertainment,” said Andy Cashman, CFE, Maryland State Fair’s general manager. “Our fairgoers will really get two concerts for the price of one with both R5 and Bea Miller performing.” On-line ticket sales began at 4 p.m., Friday, May 1, at www.marylandstatefair.com. Tickets are $40 each for VIP festival standing, and $20 each for general admission; ticket prices do not include fair gate admission, nor parking. The concert will be held in the fairground’s infield; there are no assigned standing or viewing privileges. “It’s the kind of concert where everyone will want to stand and dance to the music, which is why we don’t sell reserved tickets,” added Cashman. Led by vocalist/rhythm guitarist Ross Lynch, R5 is comprised of Lynch's siblings Riker (bass/vocals), Rocky (lead guitar/vocals) and Rydel (keyboard/vocals) and friend Ellington "Ratliff" (drums/vocals).
