ST. JOAN OF ARC TRACK TEAM – FALL, 2016 SCHEDULE Except for the first practice at Travers Park, practices during the Fall Cross-Country season will be held at or ; we will meet first at Intermediate School 145 (79th St. between 34th Ave. and Northern Blvd.) and drive to the park from there. (Parental assistance with transportation is necessary and much appreciated; see below for directions.) All practices and races are outdoors; the boys and girls should bring a jacket or sweatshirt, and a bottle or thermos of water. In case of rain, please call 718-899-3805 (Bob) or 917-257- 1272 (Mary) after 8:00 a.m. to confirm whether a practice or race will be held.

All boys and girls will participate in the Cross-Country practices, though some may not be in good enough physical condition to actually compete in the Cross-Country meets on Sundays. Every athlete will have the opportunity to qualify for the meets as his or her fitness improves during the season. (During the Winter and Spring seasons, all boys and girls who attend practices regularly will compete in all track meets.) This schedule is subject to change:

DIRECTIONS TO CROSS-COUNTRY SITES

ALLEY POND PARK, : Take the Grand Central Parkway eastbound to the Long Island Expressway (eastbound). Follow the Long Island Expressway to the Springfield Blvd. exit. Turn right on Springfield Blvd. and follow it south about ¾ mile to 76th Avenue. Turn left at 76th Ave.; the parking lot is a short distance ahead on your left. The Cross-Country practices and races start on the grass field adjacent to the parking lot.

Rest rooms are available in the playground area on the opposite side of the grass field.

By Public Transportation: From the Roosevelt Ave. subway station, take a Jamaica-bound E or F train to Union Turnpike-Kew Gardens. (Stay in the rear of the train.) Go upstairs, and take the exit to the North Side of Queens Blvd. When you reach the sidewalk, you’ll see the bus stop for the Q46 bus. Take the Q46 bus, which runs along Union Turnpike, to Springfield Blvd. When you get off the bus, cross over Union Turnpike to your left, and walk 4 or 5 blocks north along Springfield Blvd. to Alley Pond Park. (Approximate travel time from Jackson Heights: 1 hour to 1 hour, 15 minutes.)

VAN CORTLANDT PARK, BRONX: Take the Grand Central Parkway westbound to the RFK/Triboro Bridge. Drive over the Triboro Bridge, and follow signs to the Major Deegan Expressway. Follow the Major Deegan north to the Van Cortlandt Park South exit. At the end of the exit ramp, bear left, then make an immediate U-turn. Follow the road to the left about 100 yards (under bridge); the parking lot is on the left. The Cross-Country practices start on the Parade Ground, approximately 600 yards north of the parking lot (follow path at the north end of the parking lot, under the railroad bridge, then walk up the hill to the right past the Van Cortlandt Mansion).
