Redding, Attorney for the Town; Jason Cuthbert, Comptroller and Melissa Cherubino, Director of Community Development and Vicki Hillis, Director of Human Services Town Council Reports: Councilman Godlewski – “There is a fund raiser tomorrow night at Wolf Hollow from 5:30 to 7:30 for Scotia Relief. Scotia Relief helps families in need. It was a great event last year.” Councilwoman Wierzbowski – “I attended the most recent meeting of the Glenville Town Chiefs Association last week. It was at Beukendaal Fire Department. It was great to meet a lot of the new officers that were sworn in at the recent banquets that they had. There was a lot of good discussion. Two events that I found out about that I would like to share with everyone here are Saturday morning the Alplaus Fire Department Explorer Post is having a pancake breakfast from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the firehouse and the Beukendaal Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary on Sacandaga Road is going to be having their Annual Soups On.” Councilman Martin – “I attended the agenda meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission last Monday evening just to make a connection between the two boards and to convey our support for what they do and our appreciation for all of their volunteer effort. -

Swan Pearl SUNY NewNew YorkYork StateState RouteRoute 55 OverviewOverview For over a century, New York State Route 5 has been one of the main travel corridors in the Capital District. Anchored by the two cities of Albany and Schenectady, the arrow-straight route running 16.5 miles from northwest to southeast has served bicyclists, pedestrians, horsecars, streetcars, automobiles, buses, and trucks. In the post-war era, the character of NY 5 changed, reflecting shifts in employment, land use, transportation modes, and lifestyles. While still a critical transit corridor, with about 10,000 riders per day on CDTA’s buses, most of the roadway is dominated by automobiles, whether in terms of traffic flow, pavement space, or automobile-related land use, making the corridor less attractive Downtown Schenectady - NY5 at Broadway to a more diverse set of uses. Retail redevelopment has occurred in certain places in the corridor, such as at Colonie Center, but other segments of the corridor have lagged economically and need revitalization. TOWN PROFILE Population 24,403 (estimated 2007 U.S. Census) Location The Town of DeWitt is in east-central Onondaga County, immediately east of the City of Syracuse. The town is a suburb of Syracuse. It is also bordered by the Towns of Cicero to the north, Salina and Onondaga to the east, Lafayette and Pompey to the south, and Manlius to the east. The Village of East Syracuse is wholly within the boundaries of DeWitt. The Town is the site of most of the campus and all of the academic buildings of Le Moyne College. The northern portion of the Town is developed with a mixture of industrial, commercial and residential sections; and the central portion of the Town is primarily residential. The southern, hilly portion of the Town is generally mixed forests and fields with limited residential development and stone quarry operation. The major streams in the Town are Ley Creek and Butternut Creek. Interstate 481 is the major highway in DeWitt crossing the center of the Town, turning northward along the east side of DeWitt. I-481 intersects Interstate 690 in the eastern part of the Town and Interstate 90 (New York State Thruway) in the northern part of the Town. -

The primary cause of these declines is abandonment of agricultural lands, causing habitat loss due to reversion to later successional stages or due to sprawl development. -
