2016 Fact Sheet EVENT: Northern Trust Open What started as the Los Angeles Open in 1926 at Los Angeles Country Club, the Northern Trust Open is now one of the longest-running tournaments on the PGA TOUR, being played for the 90th time this year. It was staged at various courses throughout the Los Angeles area before permanently settling at Riviera Country Club in 1973. Outside of the major championships, the Northern Trust Open is the fourth-oldest event on TOUR, trailing only the BMW Championship, the RBC Canadian Open and the Valero Texas Open. DATE: February 15-21, 2016 SITE: The Riviera Country Club Pacific Palisades, Calif. PAR/YARDAGE: Par: 35-36=71/7,439 yards ARCHITECHT/OPENED: George C. Thomas, Jr. & William P. The 2015 Northern Trust Open raised over $2 million for non-profit organizations in the Los Angeles area, bringing the total generated for Los Angeles charities since the event’s inception to more than $60 million. In July 2012, City of Hope, a leading research, treatment and education center for cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases, was named Official Charity of the Northern Trust Open. As the official charity, City of Hope utilizes the event as a platform to educate the nation about its work and benefits from the considerable charitable dollars generated each year from tournament proceeds. In turn, City of Hope works alongside the Northern Trust Open to generate exposure, sales, promotion and growth of the event. For the third year in a row, with every birdie recorded during the Northern Trust Open, a donation was made to City of Hope via the Birdies for Hope program. As presenting sponsor of Birdies for Hope, Staples donated $500 for each of the 1,267 birdies recorded up to $500,000.The PGA TOUR matched that donation up to $250,000. Staples and the PGA TOUR are committed to supporting City of Hope as it continues to bring hope to even more people facing life-threatening illness. Although City of Hope is the official charity partner of the Northern Trust Open, the long-term charitable strategy of the event includes additional avenues for local organizations to receive funding, including the LA Legends Club (which award grants to deserving charities of their choice each year) and Community Charities (TICKETS Fore CHARITY™ participants, as well as the Birdies for the Brave® Patriots’ Outpost, The First Tee and Chevron’s EAGLES FOR EDUCATION).     Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway 103rdAugust 21 - 23, 2018 Wykagyl Country Club History of the Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway From its inception in 1905 through the 1940 renewal, the Met Open was considered one of the most prestigious events in golf, won by the likes of Gene Sarazen, Walter Hagen, Johnny Farrell, Tommy Armour, Paul Runyan, Byron Nelson, and Craig Wood, in addition to the brothers Alex and Macdonald Smith (who together captured seven Met Opens, with Alex winning a record four times). The second edition of the championship was hosted and sponsored by Hollywood Golf Club, when George Low won in 1906. After an eight-year hiatus overlapping World War II, the Met Open became more of a regional championship, won by many of the top local club professionals, among them Claude Harmon, Jimmy Wright, Jim Albus, David Glenz, Bobby Heins and Darrell Kestner, not to mention such storied amateurs as Chet Sanok, Jerry Courville Sr., George Zahringer III, Jim McGovern, Johnson Wagner, and Andrew Svoboda. The purse was raised to a record $150,000 in 2007, giving the championship added importance. In 2015 the MGA celebrated a major milestone in marking the championship’s 100th playing, won by Ben Polland at Winged Foot Golf Club. In 2017, The MGA welcomed a new Championship Partner, Callaway Golf. Callaway Golf is the presenting sponsor of the Met Open Championship. Eligibility The competition is open to golfers who are: 1. Trenham 1950 to 1959 Contents 1950 Ben Hogan won the U.S. Open at Merion and Henry Williams, Jr. was runner-up in the PGA Championship. 1951 Ben Hogan won the Masters and the U.S. Open before ending his eleven-year association with Hershey CC. 1952 Dave Douglas won twice on the PGA Tour while Henry Williams, Jr. and Al Besselink each won also. 1953 Al Besselink, Dave Douglas, Ed Oliver and Art Wall each won tournaments on the PGA Tour. 1954 Art Wall won at the Tournament of Champions and Dave Douglas won the Houston Open. 1955 Atlantic City hosted the PGA national meeting and the British Ryder Cup team practiced at Atlantic City CC. 1956 Mike Souchak won four times on the PGA Tour and Johnny Weitzel won a second straight Pennsylvania Open. 1957 Joe Zarhardt returned to the Section to win a Senior Open put on by Leo Fraser and the Atlantic City CC. 1958 Marty Lyons and Llanerch CC hosted the first PGA Championship contested at stroke play. 1959 Art Wall won the Masters, led the PGA Tour in money winnings and was named PGA Player of the Year. 1950 In early January Robert “Skee” Riegel announced that he was turning pro. Riegel who had grown up in east- ern Pennsylvania had won the U.S. Amateur in 1947 while living in California. He was now playing out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. At that time the PGA rules prohibited him from accepting any money on the PGA Tour for six months.

    OBITUARIES FOR JOHNNY BULLA Golf lost one of its more legendary figures when Johnny Bulla died Sunday at local hospital. He was 89. Bulla, who lived in Chandler, was known as a golfing pioneer. He was the first pro to be paired with an African-American in a PGA event, the first to endorse off-course golf products and the first to fly himself to tournaments. "He loved golf, and he loved people," Bulla's son, Bob, said Monday. "He had a wonderful, sharp mind right up to the end, and he loved helping others. "When it came to golf, he was ahead of his time in many ways." Sam Snead, who died in May 2002, was one of Bulla's closest friends and a frequent traveling companion. Bulla's death leaves Byron Nelson, 91, as the only living golfer who played regularly on the PGA men's tour in the 1930s. Bob Bulla called his father's death "sudden and unexpected," adding that he recently underwent surgery to correct a colon problem and wasn't able to recover. Although he had failing eyesight for many years, Johnny Bulla continued to give lessons to friends at Ocotillo Golf Club, took daily walks and occasionally lifted weights. Bulla won 14 Arizona Opens, a record that still stands, including the first one in 1945, and he won a record 42 PGA sectional tournaments. On the tour, his only victory came in the 1941 Los Angeles Open. He was better known for finishing second in four major tournaments - twice in the British Open and once each in the Masters and U.S.

He was introduced to golf as a caddy at the Huntingdon Valley Country Club in Noble. At age 18 he became an assistant at the new Huntingdon Valley course. Two years later he became the assistant pro at the Baederwood Golf Club that was the old Huntingdon Valley Country Club’s course. At age 21 he was made the head professional at Baederwood where he stayed for thirteen years. In his early years as a golf professional D’Angelo spent the winters working for Robert White, the first president of the PGA, at the Ocean Forest Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In 1940 D’Angelo was elected secretary of the Section where he found his calling, promoting golf. He served the Section as secretary from 1940 through 1943 when he moved to Oklahoma. Two years later he returned and he was elected secretary again for two years. No one ever did a better job of promoting the Philadelphia Section. Every month he had a lengthy Jimmy D'Angelo article with the Section’s news in the Professional Golfer magazine.
