Filippo Salemmi, International Conductor

An International profile as a Wind Band Conductor has led to several guest appearances as a conductor in several important Italian music festivals in Lecco, Palermo, , Milano, Salerno, Bergamo, Cesena and Siena, as well as in various European countries like France, Luxembourg, Austria, Holland, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Spain, and outside Europe. American universities have also often engaged M. Salemmi, for residencies, clinics and Concerts as a International Guest Conductor, such as at Stanford University, California; Drexel University, Philadelphia; Carroll University, Wisconsin; University of Manoa , Hawaii; Royal Hawaian Band, Hawaii; and the Mississippi State University. Salemmi has a wide-ranging knowledge of American public school band programs and their operation through many clinics offered for young players in High schools throughout Wisconsin (Wisconsin Lutherian College H. School; Hamilton High School – Wisconsin; Youth Wind Symphony of Wisconsin; Mukwonago High School; Waukesha North High School and other…) . He has also worked for extended periods of time with the Youth Wind Orchestra of Wisconsin, and has been an invited Guest Conductor of the Wisconsin Wind Orchestra, one of the few professional wind ensembles in the world. Has been invited by Carroll University for Spring Semester 2015, as Conductor of Wind Symphony of Carroll University and Youth Wind Symphony of Wisconsin and Professor in a Class of Listening of Classical Music and class of CCE .

Since 1987 he is Stable Conductor of the Symphonic Wind Band "City of " and the School of Music "A. Bartoloni" Norcia - and the conductor of the Symphonic Wind Band "City of " and the Municipal School of Music "N. Maurizi" in Bevagna- Italy, where he teaches Chamber music, Clarinet, Composition, and Music theory.

He is also the Principal Conductor of the INTERNATIONAL WIND ENSEMBLE in activities of

INTERNATIONAL MUSIC PROJECT IMP ITALY – USA. In addition, he is Conductor of the Youth Wind Orchestra of and a stage orchestral project organized by the Region of Umbria Italy, with young musicians aged 15-20 years (talented students from Conservatories of Music and High Schools) .

M. Salemmi together with M. Harper (Carroll University), are responsible for organizing the

INTERNATIONAL MUSIC PROJECT IMP ITALY- USA and Concert tour 2016 (Concerts in Salisburgo, , ..other .. ) with the Wind Symphony of Carroll University, Wind Symphony Umbrian Norcia -Bevagna, Conservatory of Music of Cesena , Salerno, "Mystical Umbria of St. Benedict and St. Francis".

INTERNATIONAL MUSIC PROJECT IMP ITALY- USA, involves many American and Italian students, Composers, American International Guest Conductors, American Universities, like: Carroll University, Wisconsin ; Stanford University, California; University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; Drexel University, Philadelphia ; Mississippi State University, Mississippi; Manoa University of Hawaii, Honolulu; Marquette University of Milwaukee, Interlochen Arts Academy. This project included Concerts, Conducting symposia, and Masterclasses and other musical activities, in Europe (Italy, Austria ,Germany) as well as in the United States, that were held from 2007 and will continue through 2016- 2017.

In 2016 – 2017 Salemmi will conducts several concerts in USA, including Drexel University, Carroll University, Marquette University, Stanford University, and numerous other international Concerts in Italy and in Europe. Salemmi has served as a Conductor and Coordinator of numerous Master, International Seminars Study for Wind Ensemble. As director of Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, he has conducted various pieces performed in World premiere, some of which have been expressly dedicated to him: "Bevagna", loosely based on the Kyrie "Alme Pater" by Giancarlo Aquilanti (Stanford University); "Episodi Francescani" for Symphonic Band by Carlo Pirola, commissioned by the Symphonic Wind Band of Bevagna on the occasion of the l50th anniversary of the Wind Band of Bevagna; “Eclypse” by Joel Matthys, Resident Composer in Carroll University, “ Nursia, eterna sei” by Mauro Marani arranged for Wind Band by Filippo Salemmi ( 2014). And "The Cantica of Saint Benedicto" by Jacob de Haan, and expressly dedicated to his holiness Pope, Benedict XVI.(2007), “Cantico” by european Compores Oliver Waespi (2015) American Premiere.

He is currently a member of the National Artistic Commission of Anbima (National Association of ItalianWind Bands) which coordinates all cultural activities of Conductors and bands in Italy and Umbria, taking in the course of activities under the projects, seminars and conferences on the repertoire and on gesture, study workshops with various Wind National Band.

He also holds the distinction of having curated and directed the recording of the piece, "Royal March" of G. Gabetti, performed by the Symphonic Wind Band of Bevagna on the soundtrack of the film by Roberto Benigni, "Life is Beautiful," winner of three Academy Awards.
