GCMTA News P romoting Music Education

Notes from the President Dear GCMTA,

Just this morning my husband mentioned to me the importance of “finishing well.” I know we have all had the student whose brain seems to vanish the springtime of their graduating year, the parent who seems to forget in May that they have had the same lesson time for nine months, the student who would just rather be playing outside.... We have been the teacher who is counting down the days to the day after the recital! Every season of life has a finish line, every song we play has a potentially polished finish, and every vacation has an ending. With this in mind, be sure to pace yourself in order to have a strong ending. Keep your goals in focus, nurture your body, mind and soul, and stay true to your purpose and you will Finish Well. And remember every good race is followed by a celebration....Enjoy your summer!

- Eva Bone, GCMTA President

October 24, 2018 Grace Bible Church, Lawrencevile 9:45AM for the Young (and Young at Heart) Dr. Grace Huang For centuries composers have written collections titled “ for the Young,” “Music for Children,” or “Children’s Pieces” for the early to late-intermediate piano student. Some of these collections are well-known and still popular in performance today; others are more “off the beaten path” but every bit as well-written and imaginative, and will engage younger and older students alike. Teachers seeking effective music for recitals, festivals, and auditions will enjoy exploring this diverse collection of 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st century works by Beach, Previn, Gurlitt, Bloch, Casella, and others.
