BIG SOUTH VS. DIVISION I Big South football teams are a combined 30-34 in season openers since 2002, including a League-best vs. FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SUBDIVISION four wins in 2005, 2006 and 2010. Fifteen of the 34 losses have been against FBS members. Just the second wide receiver to receive the Conference’s preseason honor, WEBCASTS & TELEVISION BROADCASTS Hazel is a two-time All-Big South pick (First-Team in 2012 and Second-Team in 2011). MASTRO OF THE UNIVERSE WMYA - Asheville/Spartanburg/Greenville Coastal Carolina senior NICCOLO MASTROMATTEO is the Big South’s all-time leader for punt returns (61) and punt return yards (538). He is the third player in Big South history with at least 100 combined kickoff/punt returns in a career, as he is third all-time with 108 (47 KR, 61 PR). He needs 20 returns to break the Conference record of 127, which is held by former VMI standout TIM MAYPRAY. Maypray returned 98 kickoffs and 29 punts in his career from 2006-09. Meanwhile, Mastromatteo is the only player in the Conference record books with two punt returns of at least 80 yards.

MEMBERS ONLY Junior linebackers QUINN BACKUS (Coastal Carolina) and DONELLE WILLIAMS (Presbyterian) will likely join the Big South’s 200-tackle club early in the 2013 season.
