FACT SHEET Contact: Regan Estes (310) 490-2463 [email protected] LOS ANGELES DODGERS THE TEAM’S HISTORY The Los Angeles Dodgers are a Major League baseball team based in Los Angeles, California. The team was founded in Brooklyn, New York in 1883 and played in Brooklyn until relocating to Los Angeles in 1958. The team is a member of the National League West division. The Dodgers have won six World Series titles. The first came in 1955 in a win over the rival Yankees. Led by the first African American player in Major League baseball, Jackie Robinson, the Dodgers finally beat the Yankees to win the World Series, after losing the previous year to the Yankees. Since 1883, the Dodgers have made 18 World Series appearances and won the National League pennant 21 times. The team has seen 47 Dodgers be elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame. THE 2015 Roster After capturing the National League West titles in 2013 and 2014, the Dodger made an early exit from the playoffs after falling to the St. Louis Cardinals both seasons. The second-straight playoff loss to St. Louis prompted the Dodgers organization to make some offseason changes. Veteran shortstop and 2007 National League MVP Jimmy Rollins will be joining 2014 Cy Young and MVP Award winner Clayton Kershaw. Rollins will replace Hanley Ramirez, who was traded to the Boston Redsox. The Dodgers also added former Angel Howie Kendrick and newcomer Joc Pederson to the roster. All-Stars right-handed pitcher Zack Greinke and outfielder Yasiel Puig will be donning Dodger blue for another season as well. The starting lineup can be seen below: ~~~ more ~~~ 1. J. He led his team to 2013 and 2014 division titles.
