boys tournament

The 27th annual Wausau Noon Optimist boys basketball tournament was held on February 15th and 16th. The tournament was a tremendous success. 84 teams took part in the tournament for grades 4 -8 consisting of 12 fourth grade, 16 fifth grade, 22 sixth grade, 16 seventh grade and 18 eighth grade teams. Many teams came to Wausau from various parts of and Minnesota. We had a group of teams from the Fox Valley, Madison, Milwaukee, La Crosse, Eau Claire, Twin Cities, and teams closer to Wausau. The games were played at Wausau West High School, , Newman Catholic High School, John Muir, and Horace Mann. There were many competitive games played and teams that placed were awarded Optimist medals and the teams that won championships also received t shirts compliments of Eastbay. This tournament continues to be known as one of the most elite tournaments for the youth in Wisconsin. We often hear that teams enjoy the competition, like our facilities, games are played on time, and the officiat- ing is the best compared to other tournaments. The money raised for the tournament goes to the three local Wausau schools boys basketball programs. The money helps each school’s basketball program from grade school and beyond. Wausau East, Wausau West, and Newman Catholic are very appreciative for what the Optimist club provides them. The tournament also leaves a very positive economic impTourney recapact in the Wausau community. Hotels, restaurants, and shopping are impacted with an increase in revenue dollars during the weekend. The tournament com- mittee puts in a lot of time and effort in order for the tournament to be successful. We also have help from other Optimist members collecting money at the front entrance. We look forward to putting on another great tournament in 2015. Sam Theiler, Committee Chair 2014 Boy’s Invitational Basketball Tournament Results
