Home-Brewed 1987 Pro Season 1987 for Cold Snap! Thanks for downloading the 1987 season file I created for Cold Snap! I hope you enjoy playing, and please send any and all feedback to me at usfltecmo AT hotmail DOT com. East Division Winnipeg 12-6 Toronto 11-6-1 Hamilton 7-11 Ottawa 3-15 CFL West Division BC 12-6 Edmonton 11-7 Calgary 10-8 Saskatchewan 5-12-1 Championship: Edmonton 38, Toronto 36 This is a season that Charles Dickens may have envisioned all those years back. It was indeed the best of times and the worst of times in the world of Canadian pro football. The league had a very competitive season, highlighted by a back and forth championship game that is still talked about as one of the best in league history. On the financial front, however, the league was suffering from the loss of their Carling O'Keefe sponsorship, and things were so bad in Montreal that the team folded just days before their first scheduled game of the season! I have created this season with the help of Keith's how-to guide for Second Season football, plus the adjustments he suggests for Canadian play. The one major change I made was one of necessity, as at this time, I do not have access to team defensive stats for yards allowed, so I simply took into account points scored to give the teams their defensive grades. If someone happens to have access to this data, please get in touch with me, and I will make changes as necessary. Also, if you believe I have made an error, or have a suggestion, feel free to reach out to me as well. The documentation available for past Canadian seasons isn't always as detailed as I'd like it to be, especially for depth charts for defences and O-Lines. I have included finder charts for those who use them. I generally do not use finder charts, but I'm also usually playing fictional seasons. I have tried to make these as accurate to the real statistics as I could, although every so often, it was difficult to be as precise as I wanted to, as teams didn't always do things that rounded nicely into 20! Edmonton's interceptions were especially difficult, so I would advise using a decider die or flip a coin when you get to some of the lower numbers, where I have split one digit on the 20 sided die into 2 players. I have also, at times, included a “choice” option, which means that there were players that wouldn't have normally registered on the finder charts, but there are enough players that still recorded stats that one or more of the 20 sided die digits would have been left blank had I not added that. Choice is intended to be used to get those not on the finder charts into the statistical action. My recommendation there is to either choose a player that is not listed on the finder chart as the player found on the chart, or to re-roll if you'd prefer not to do that. Also, use common sense when it comes to the finder charts. I have included the QB's on each team as one player, but if you have a pocket passer in the game on a team that also has a scrambling QB, and you keep coming up with runs by the quarterback, simply re-roll or assign the carry to the back with the most carries, which is always the first back listed. I have also included a very speculative version of what the 1987 Montreal club may have looked like for gamers who like a little bit of “What if?” mixed in. I've made many attempts over the years at finding a final roster for the 1987 Montreal club for years, and still have not found one, so this effort is most likely inaccurate in a few places, but I believe that the teams I have created for this file, while possibly having a few detail flaws, are accurate enough at this point to be enjoyable. There is also an instant results finder chart for those gamers that like doing single team replays. Thanks again for taking the time to download my season, and please let me know if you enjoy it! 1987 BC DEFENSE KR PR FGR RET Melvin Byrd 26 20 Larry Crawford 19 11t 1 NOTES: Jim Sandusky 14 9t Larry Crawford scores TD on all punt returns over 24 yards.
