West Constituency

Simon Clarke – Public Governor for West Norfolk (second term of office)

Simon Clarke was elected as Public Governor for West Norfolk for a second term from February 2019. Simon has worked in the NHS as a nurse, a manager and with commissioners for over forty years, the last 32 in West Lynn. Simon has been a board member and chair of the Royal College of Nursing. He was part of the Department of Health working group for Quality and Outcomes and NHS payment systems. He is currently a board member for a psychotherapy organisation and Trustee of a local mental health charity. He continues to support the work of commissioners, work as a nurse psychotherapist and enjoys his time at Hospital radio Lynn. Simon is a member of the Business Committee.

Tracy Corbett – Public Governor for West Norfolk (first term of office)

Tracy Corbett was elected as Public Governor for West Norfolk from February 2020. Tracy has lived in with her family, husband, three sons and daughter for more than thirty years. Tracy originally trained as a teacher, going on to work as Production Manager in an advertising agency, now working part time as P A for her husband. Having previously volunteered for WRVS Meals on Wheels Service, for the past 3 years Tracy has been volunteering for WNDA in and the Downham Dementia Cafe.

Esmé Corner OBE – Public (& Lead) Governor for West Norfolk (fourth term of office)

Esmé Corner was re-elected as Public Governor in February 2020. Esmé has lived with her family in for the past thirty five years and before retirement, was the Head teacher of two schools in West Norfolk. Esmé Chairs the Patient Experience Committee in which role she has endeavoured to represent the best interests of patients both individually and collectively. Esmé is also a member of the Membership & Communication, the Business and the Nomination & Remuneration Committees.

Dr Jonathan Dossetor – Public Governor for West Norfolk (fourth term of office)

Jonathan Dossetor was re-elected as Public Governor for West Norfolk from February 2020. He has lived in since 1981and worked for 26 years as Consultant Paediatrician at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He was Regional Advisor for East Anglia for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health from 1996 -2001 and also served on the College Council. Jonathan is currently Chairman of the Membership and Communication Committee of the Governor’s Council and a member of both the Patient Experience and Nomination & Remuneration Committees. He also attends the Trust’s Serious Incidents Committee.

Ann Easton – Public Governor for West Norfolk first term of office)

Ann Easton started her first term of office as a West Norfolk Governor in February 2019. Ann has worked within the NHS for 46 years in varying roles, since leaving school; initially as a Medical Secretary, then qualifying as a Registered Nurse in 1976 before qualifying as a Midwife in 1978. Ann has worked for the QEH as Midwifery Sister, Team Leader and a Specialist Midwife involved with vulnerable women and their families, until her retirement eighteen months ago. Ann lives in Heacham with her husband and is particularly interested in helping to provide local, high quality hospital health care to King's Lynn and surrounding communities. Ann has joined the Patient Experience Committee meeting.

Penny Hipkin – Public Governor for West Norfolk (fourth term of office)

Penny Hipkin was re-elected as Public Governor for West Norfolk from February 2020. Her first career was in hotel management, owning firstly the Manor Hotel and then Fairlight Lodge guesthouse. In 1976 she trained as a nurse in Kings Lynn and was also Chairman of “Headway” Kings Lynn until 1995. She retired in 2004 as a Sister in the Critical / Coronary Care Unit. Penny is Chairman of QEH League of Friends. Penny is a member of three Governors’ Council committees: the Patient Experience, Nomination & Remuneration and Membership and Communications Committees. She also attends the Trust’s Ethics and Serious Incident Committee.

Patrick Kavanagh - Public Governor for West Norfolk (first term of office)

Patrick Kavanagh started his first term of office as a West Norfolk Governor in February 2019. Pat has a long public service history that includes service in the Royal Air Force, Norfolk Police and the college of West Anglia where he was a Course Director. Pat spent many years volunteering with local and national charities. Pat holds a Master of Education degree and has over 25 years' experience in the training and development field. Pat has joined the Patient Experience and Membership & Communications Committees.

Mike Press – Public Governor for West Norfolk (first term of office)

Mike Press was elected as a West Norfolk Governor in February 2020. Mike is retired and has lived in Heacham for 20 years. For most of this time, he has been involved with health issues in Primary Care level as Chairman of Heacham Group Practice Patient Group and involvement in West Norfolk Patient Group. Mike’s interests include volunteer driving for the Norfolk Hospice -Tapping House for over 12 years. Mike’s working life has been in engineering, finishing with a multinational motor car manufacturer on European projects. During this time he was a District Councillor for many years eventually becoming the Chairman of that local authority.

Kenneth Wicks - Public Governor for West Norfolk (first term of office)

Kenneth Wicks was elected as a new Public Governor for West Norfolk Governor from February 2019. Born in King’s Lynn, he has a son and three daughters, is retired and lives with his wife in ; lately volunteering with ERS, the hospital car service. His career primarily encompassed the full breadth of the construction industry; an old member of the Institute of Building, an engineer on sites including among others, Canary Wharf, a construction manager in Malaysia, working on behalf of Defence Estates. Kenneth is grateful to all who work within the Trust and is determined to represent the very best desires of those who depend upon the QEH. Kenneth has joined the Business and Membership & Communications Committees.

Breckland, and Rest of Constituency

Alan Clarke – Public Governor for Breckland, North Norfolk and Rest of England (first term of office)

Alan Clarke began his first term of office as Public Governor for Breckland from February 2020. Born in in 1950; Alan is a chartered builder with 54 years construction management experience and is the present Clerk of Works at . .Alan has spent 10 years’ in School governance and several years as an Independent Housing Association Board Member. He is no stranger to delivering high service performance standards that measure-up with national targets and enjoys being accountable and proactively working in a team focused on success. Alan is mindful of the challenges within Health and Social Care and looks forward to helping by representing the interests of the community, for the delivery of progressive and sustained service excellence to the Trusts stakeholders.

Dale Welch – Public Governor for Breckland, North Norfolk and Rest of England (first term of office)

Dale Welch started his first term of office as a Breckland, North Norfolk and Rest of England Governor in February 2019. Dale has lived in Ashill 26+ years and his background is 20 years military and 20+ years working in IT related positions. He believes the QEH to be a good yet challenged. In this ever changing world Dale would like to help being part of the solution. It is his belief that if we can do our bit to bring together visions and reality, the QEH will prosper and grow. There is much to be learned and Dale would like to use his life experience to benefit the Trust. Dale has joined the Patient Experience Committee.

Cambridgeshire Constituency

Jenny Brodie – Public Governor for (third term of office)

Jenny Brodie started her third term of office as Public Governor for Cambridgeshire from February 2019. Jenny has recently retired having recently worked as a part time admin/receptionist in a care home which specialises in dementia. She is married with a daughter and a son who is married with two young children. Jenny has had experience of the hospital both as a patient and as Trust staff member having worked as a ward clerk/receptionist at the Fermoy Unit for two and a half years and also on the NHS Professional Bank staff for just over two years. Jenny is a member of both the Patient Experience and Business Committees.

Malcolm Bruce – Public (& Deputy Lead) Governor for Cambridgeshire (second term of office)

Malcolm Bruce started his second term of office as a public governor for Cambridgeshire from February 2020. Malcolm lives on the Cambridgeshire/Norfolk/Lincolnshire border. He retired in 2011 after working in the NHS as a registered nurse for 40 years. During his career he worked in hospitals, the community and general practice. Within the NHS setting he is particularly interested in quality, communications and patient safety. He is Chairman of the Friends of the Hospitals. Malcolm also attends Fenland Health and Care Forums. Malcolm is a member of both the Patient Experience and Membership & Communications Committees; he also attends the Trust’s Serious Incident Committee. He looks forward to representing the people of North Cambridgeshire.

Betty Lewis – Public Governor for Cambridgeshire (fourth term of office)

Betty Lewis started her fourth term of office as a public governor for Cambridgeshire from February 2020. . Betty lives on the Cambridgeshire/Norfolk boarder and understands the importance of having a local service readily available. She worked as a State Registered Nurse for over 40 years, retiring in 2013. During the last 23 years Betty was employed as the Registered Manager for a Charity supporting people with physical disabilities in both a Residential Care Home with Nursing and a Holiday Hotel with nursing service. Betty plays an active part in the Patient Experience and Membership and Communications Committees.

South East Lincolnshire Governors

Colin Dobbins– Public Governor for South East Lincolnshire (first term of office)

Colin Dobbins started his first term of office as a South East Lincolnshire Governor in February 2020. Colin has experience in public service as a Detective in Cheshire Constabulary, he then moved into commercial business ending up working for a large American IT company as a senior manager with responsibility for offices in the UK, Europe and South Africa. This exposed him to different cultures and ways of working and served to provide immense experience in all aspects of commercial business life including company takeovers .Fifteen years he moved to the area and although disabled has recently retired. Colin has a real passion for the NHS and wants to help make QEHKL the top hospital in the county.

Martyn West - Public Governor for South East Lincolnshire (first term of office)

Martyn West was elected as a Public Governor for South East Lincolnshire in February 2020. Now living in Long Sutton and semi-retired, Martyn enjoyed a challenging career as a freelance consultant working with the management and boards of many land, sea and air freight companies in the area of world-wide logistics. During this time Martyn served as a school governor for 11 years and since 2012 has served as Chairman of the Long Sutton Conservative Club. Having been a member of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation Trust since receiving minor treatment there in 2014, and more recently longer-term treatment, Martyn is now looking forward to increasing his involvement with the Hospital in the role of Governor.

Staff Constituencies

David Close –Staff Governor – Non-Clinical (first term of office)

David Close was elected as Staff Non-Clinical Governor from February 2020. David spent the first ten years of his career serving in the Army Royal Artillery. He has been working at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn since May 2016 in his initial role as an administrator within the Clinical Audit team. David has since progressed within Clinical Audit becoming the Department Manager in January 2018.

Chaz Schofield– Staff Governor - Non-Clinical (first term of office)

Chaz Scholefield was elected as a Non Clinical Staff Governor in January 2019. After a long military career, followed by managerial roles within the Public and Private sectors Chaz joined the Trust as the Car Parking Manager and Travel Coordinator in July 2013. He moved to his current role as the Waste and Linen Services Manager in April 2017, where he is responsible for the collection and disposal of clinical, domestic and recyclable waste, soiled linen and sharps bins across the site. He also manages the supply of clean linen and uniforms and oversees the courier contract with ERS. Chaz has joined both the Patient Experience and Membership and Communications Committees.

Dan Todd – Staff Governor - Non-Clinical (first term of office)

Dan Todd started his first term of office as a Non Clinical Staff Governor in February 2019. Dan is a ward clerk, a cancer services team member and works with the Medical records library. His roles are so varied and wide ranging that he gets to see the mechanics of the hospital from bottom to top. Dan feels that this will provide a great insight when looking to improve. Dan always puts the patients, their relatives and colleagues as a main priority and hopes to continue this in his new role. Dan has joined the Patient Experience Committee.

Clinical Staff Governors

Gavin Walker– Staff Governor – Clinical (first term of office)

Gavin Gavin Walker started his first term of office as a Clinical Staff Governor in February 2020. Gavin is a Physician Associate who currently works on ward as part of the medical team for gastroenterology. Originally from Sheffield, he moved to Kings Lynn and has now been a part of the Trust for over two years since graduating from his master's degree at UEA in Norwich where he lived for the 2 years prior to here. Gavin feels his role as a PA allows him to see the best in everyone as he works closely with members from many teams in a clinical environment and he is also very keen on staff engagement and development.

Ant Wilson – Staff Governor – Clinical (first term of office)

Ant Wilson started his first term of office as a Clinical Staff Governor in February 2019. Ant is currently employed on Tilney ward as a Clinical Coordinator. He’s worked in the NHS for best part of 19 years in various roles, Health care assistant in ITU, Physiotherapy Technician for trauma orthopaedics at Lincoln county hospital and most recently working as part of the rehab team here at QEH, before going in to his current role on Tilney ward Ant has always put his patients and colleagues as his first priority when working at QEH and hopes to continue that trend going into his new role as Clinical Staff Governor. Ant has 3 boys Kyle, Joe and Teddie with his partner Emma. Ant has joined the Patient Experience Committee.

Appointed Governors:

Ann Compton – Appointed Governor for the College of West Anglia

Ann Compton has been the appointed College of West Anglia (CoWA) representative since February 2017. Ann is the Curriculum Support Manager at CoWA. Ann is a member of the Patient Experience Committee.

Jane Evans – Appointed Governor for West Norfolk Carers

Jane Evans has been the appointed West Norfolk Carers Association representative since trust authorisation in February 2011 and for West Norfolk Carers since 2017. Jane has been the Executive Manager at West Norfolk Carers since 2005. She also lectures Social Policy and is a member of the Institute for learning. Prior to this Jane worked as a Social Worker. She also serves as a school governor at a West Norfolk High School. Jane is a member of both the Patient Experience and Membership & Communications Committees

Cllr Paul Kunes – Appointed Governor for Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk

Paul Kunes was appointed Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk representative in June 2015. Paul represents Spellowfields Ward, and as well as his role at the QEH he is also a member of the Regeneration and Development Panel and Cabinet Scrutiny Committee. Paul is a member of the Business Committee.

Dr Sue Madden – Appointed Governor for the University of East Anglia (UEA)

Dr Sue Madden was appointed the University of East Anglia’s representative in October 2019. Susan grew up in Litcham before moving away at 18 to train to become a physiotherapist. After working as a respiratory physiotherapist in North West London, Susan moved into Higher Education where she completed a PhD in medical sociology. Over the past 20 years, Susan has worked at several different Universities, working with a range of health and medical pre and post registration courses.

Susan has a particular interest in ensuring clinical workforce meets the needs of the NHS and has worked with a range of NHS Trusts as well as Health Education England to look at these challenges. Susan moved back to West Norfolk with her husband and 3 sons in 2013, where she currently works at the University of East Anglia as Admissions Director and Senior Lecturer in Medical Education at the Norwich Medical School.

Thomas Smith – Appointed Governor for

Thomas Smith was appointed Norfolk County Council’s (NCC) representative in June 2019. Thomas was elected in 2017 to represent the Gaywood South division (within which the QEH sits). Thomas was previously appointed to the Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust. He also sits on the People & Communities committee of NCC, which includes wellbeing and public health responsibilities under its remit.

Thomas is the Member Champion for Physical Disabilities and Sensory Impairment for the County Council. Formerly Thomas was a receptionist in a Doctor’s Surgery and also worked as a journalist covering amongst other things health insurance and healthcare. In his spare time he is a Methodist Local Preacher and volunteers for charities, with a particular fondness for railway volunteering.

Andy Walder- Appointed Governor for Freebridge Housing Association

Andy Walder was appointed Freebridge Housing Association’s representative in October 2017. Andy lives in North Wootton and has recently retired from the Construction Industry Training Board where he worked for some 14 years. He was responsible for the CITB's training colleges across the UK, training over 30,000 learners every year and worked closely with construction companies, clients and developers. He is currently a Director of the St Edmunds School Academy in King's Lynn and works with both Wolverhampton University and Constructionarium to promote the benefits of vocational training to support academic learning. Andy is a member of the Business Committee.

Peter Wilkinson – Appointed Governor for Breckland

Peter Wilkinson was appointed Breckland Council’s representative in June 2019. Peter lives in Narborough. His working background was in logistics and attached to the RAF, working for the Ministry of Defence. A Breckland Councillor since 2015, Peter is Chairman of the Breckland Youth Advisory Board, Vice chairman of Breckland Planning, Vice Chairman (and former president) of Norfolk Association of Local Councils. Peter is the National Sustainable Communities Champion, working in London with Officers and Ministers at the Ministry of Housing Communities and local government.
