You would have thought this charade would have drawn some attention to the situation but other than a few our cover picture: casual glances it largely passed unnoticed. The Red Hats are coming... Similar incidents happen every day, in every town and village, and I can’t help but ask myself “why”? I know somewhere this rule is written in the driving manuals and must be part of the driving test that is the pre-requisite to obtaining a driver’s license – every driver must be aware of it - but somehow, it seems this regulation is considered by most to be insignificant and too often ignored. Drivers are the first to complain about bicycles and skateboards on the streets because of the dangers they present – and rightly so, but this does not give them the right to claim the city streets for their exclusive use. Though pedestrians do not walk down the streets, they do have the right to cross them – safely! Crosswalks were designed for that purpose; they’re obvious, placed at strategic points throughout the cities – and they are ignored. We all have family; elderly parents, daughters pushing baby strollers, careless teenagers, sisters, brothers, aunts and uncles and at some point in time, they all walk somewhere, they all cross streets.
