It is sad to see that Kieron Gillen ended Darth Vader after issue 25 but I believe it is better to end a series on a high note than drag out a certain storyline that leaves no room for growth later on in life. It's like watching a train wreck, because you know where the story is going, but watching these people fill some of the gaps is so rewarding. By issue 3 I was skimming. After Darth Vader's narrow escape from the destruction of the Death Star, the Dark Lord is consumed with a desire to find the Force-strong young pilot who fired the fatal shot. The worse is that Vader notices that Palpatine is developing some kind of operation without his knowledge. So I don't know whether he genuinely thought I'd like to read this and was attempting to be nice, if he knew this was the last comic in the world I'd like to read but thought I'd like it if I gave it a shot, or if he was just being the same squirrely dick that I've always known, who saw his golden opportunity to fuck me over and took it. I often got the sense of how genuinely frightening he would be, and Gillen doesn't make the mistake of giving him too much dialog or internal narration. It's all new material, but Gillen does a good job of making comicbook Vader sound like movie Darth Vader. The flash backs were also great; they helped to deliver the full nature of his personality in this new story.
