Your London Wins Best Shared Services Award Submitted By: Gray Matter PR Friday, 16 June 2006 Your London Wins Best Shared Services Award Submitted by: Gray Matter PR Friday, 16 June 2006 Portal receives Government Computing BT Award for its ‘Report It’ facility London Connects, June 16, 2006: Your London (www.yourlondon.gov.uk) has received a prestigious Government Computing BT Award, winning the ‘Best Shared Services’ category for the portal’s ‘Report It’ facility. Report It is a centrally hosted facility for residents of the capital to report problems such as litter, noise, broken street lamps, blocked drains and breaches of planning rules, to their respective borough. It is an innovative example of how shared services can benefit local authorities and citizens alike. If a resident wishes to report a burnt-out vehicle, they can click on a map and the Report It website will display the local authority responsible for the disposal of the car. It also helpfully displays a red car icon to show whether the problem has already been reported. A hyperlink then takes the user to an online form to log details. This is another example of how Your London is providing a genuinely useful service to people in and around London. With 33 borough councils to choose from, residents, visitors and commuters cannot be expected to know the boundaries and responsibilities of every council. www.yourlondon.gov.uk, makes it easier for users to navigate London’s online public services by directing the user to the relevant authority and providing greater accessibility. Report It was piloted by six London boroughs and the Your London portal over six months and has now been rolled out to other London councils with a 100% uptake of the service. Authorities can easily join by linking from their website to the Report It facility and can include their own branding. Customer service agents can also use it in their contact centre to log problem reports made over the phone. Even where problems happen to occur just outside of their council’s borders, Report It will automatically forward the report to the correct authority. Judges of the awards commended the Report It facility and said, ‘it demonstrates a strong focus on the citizen, providing a joined-up user-friendly customer interface.’ The Report It facility was implemented by software developer Tagish in partnership with London Connects using the NonStopGov eGovernment product and has been integrated into Your London by web solutions company System Associates (http://www.systemassociates.co.uk), lead development partner for Your London. Other facilities on Your London include a geographical search facility for open spaces, playgrounds, cash machines, tube stations, pharmacies, public toilets and sports centres.     SHARED eADMISSIONS SERVICE IS A HIT FOR LONDON Submitted by: Gray Matter PR Friday, 12 January 2007 London, January 8, 2007: London’s eAdmissions service is the only online school admissions system to have been implemented as a shared service in the UK and is an excellent example of how shared services are benefiting local communities and enhancing local authority services. London’s eAdmissions system was launched in September 2006 and early results for user adoption of the service have been very positive. The system was developed to allow the 33 London Boroughs to offer online school admissions. Take-up results in the first year of operation have been encouraging, with the London Borough of Hackney, achieving the highest results nationwide - 81% of its secondary school applications were made online. Others that achieved significantly higher online applications than the national average were the Boroughs of Sutton, Merton, the City of London Corporation and Richmond. Overall, on average, the London Boroughs achieved 14% take-up. The system was implemented by the Pan London Coordinated School Admissions Programme and London Connects, led by Wandsworth Borough Council and was developed and hosted by System Associates, a privately-owned web technology partner. London eAdmissions sits under the eAdmissions National Project, which has overall responsibility for supporting 150 local authorities across the country in delivering and promoting online school admissions. Primary and secondary school applications can now be made online by parents, at a time convenient to them, via London’s Portal - www.yourlondon.gov.uk, making it easier for today’s busy parents to apply for a school place.

Summary 1.1 This report provides background information and outlines the objectives for the single session scrutiny on E-government, focusing on project implementation in London. 2. Background 2.1 The Economic and Social Development Committee resolved undertaking a focused piece of work on e-Government to consider progress of projects in London. It was agreed that the Committee hold a scrutiny session to consider evidence on this matter. 2.2 New technology is being increasingly deployed in the public sector in order to meet customers’ needs and deliver better services. The Government has recognised the importance of this and has set ambitious targets for having all public services available on-line by 2005. 2.3 London Connects is a London wide agency bringing together local, regional, and national government to co-operate on e-government developments. It has responsibility for developing an e-Government strategy for London, supporting its implementation through the leadership of London wide ICT infrastructure and services; and by the provision of information, research and best practice services.
