July 29, 2009 The Honorable Harry Reid The Honorable Nancy Pelosi United States Senate United States House of Representatives 522 Hart Senate Building 235 Cannon House Office Building Washington, DC 20510 Washington, DC 20515 Dear Senator Reid and Speaker Pelosi: We are writing to reiterate our concern with recent federal health reform efforts—particularly, the Medicare-modeled “public plan” and a national health insurance exchange—which we believe would trample states’ rights and lead Americans down the road to single-payer health care. The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) represents more than 1,800 state legislative members. ALEC is the nation’s largest nonpartisan, individual membership association of state legislators. Approximately one-third of all state legislators belong to ALEC, in addition to 78 ALEC “alumni” in Congress and more than 300 private-sector companies, national trade associations, and nonprofit organizations. The 167 undersigned members from 41 states are state legislators who chose to take an additional individual stand against the public plan and national health insurance exchange. In May, ALEC’s lawmakers approved the Resolution on Preserving States’ Rights Regarding Federal Health Insurance Exchanges and a Public Plan (attached), which deems the public plan anti-competitive and invokes the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in calling the national health insurance exchange a “federal takeover” of the states’ role in regulating health insurance. As a representative to such a broad coalition of state interests, ALEC questions the wisdom and practicality of the public plan and the national health insurance exchange. Our concerns include: * The public plan will not be competitive.

  • Wyoming State Government Directory
Pictured left to right: State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow, State Auditor Cynthia Cloud, Governor Matt Mead, Secretary of State Ed Murray and State Treasurer Mark Gordon As someone with a lifelong interest in old maps, especially maps of Wyoming and the American West, I am delighted to share a historic map of Wyoming on the cover of this year’s Directory. This map represents a point in time, at the beginning of Wyoming’s statehood, when the interior boundaries that shape Wyoming as we know it today were still a work in progress. I love examining old maps because they often tell the story of our human experience; each map being a snapshot of the knowledge or perceptions that we possessed at the time. Maps can also demonstrate advances in our industry and technology, trace the ebb and flow of our communities, and even reflect some of our social values. No chapter in Wyoming’s history has been faceless. All of our growth and progress has been through the combined efforts of Wyoming’s citizens and leaders, working together to address the needs of the moment. Wyoming’s past explorers drew new maps as their knowledge increased or as circumstances changed, and left behind progressively more accurate guides for us to follow. Now, our current State Elected Officials and our citizens are venturing forward to meet Wyoming’s future – armed with the knowledge of our past and present – and committed to leaving an even better “map” for future generations. 2016-2017 Wyoming State Government Directory Front Cover: 1888 Rand McNally Map of Wyoming Inside Cover Written By: Honorable Ed Murray Jessica Cockrell Cover’s Graphic Design By: Gabriel Kaufhold Secretary of State’s Office The directory is available via the internet from: Website: sos.wyo.gov Wyoming Secretary of State Phone (307) 777-7378 Email: [email protected] Table of Contents How to Use This Directory ..............................................................................................
