The generalization accommodates both ties (of arbitrary order) and partial rankings (complete rankings of subsets of items). By default, the implementation adds a set of pseudo-comparisons with a hypothetical item, ensuring that the underlying network of wins and losses between items is always strongly connected. In this way, the worth of each item always has a finite maximum likelihood estimate, with finite standard error. The use of pseudo-comparisons also has a regularization effect, shrinking the estimated parameters towards equal item worth. In addition to standard methods for model summary, PlackettLuce provides a method to compute quasi standard errors for the item parameters. This provides the basis for comparison intervals that do not change with the choice of identifiability constraint placed on the item parameters. Finally, the package provides a method for model- based partitioning using covariates whose values vary between rankings, enabling the identification of subgroups of judges or settings with different item worths. The features of the package are demonstrated through application to classic and novel data sets. This research is part of cooperative agreement AID-OAA-F-14-00035, which was made possible by the generous support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

While anything can happen in Red Bull Global Rallycross racing, Scott Speed and Tanner Foust should be locked in a battle for the Driver’s Championship, with a big lead over the third-place team. Just 30 points separate first-place Speed from Foust, a lead that could be quickly cut-down following Heat wins from Foust and a higher finish in the final. During the first eleven races of the 2017 season, the two drivers have 29 (Speed) and 24 (Foust) Heat wins, three times more than the next driver. With up to 81 points still unclaimed for this weekend, it’s too close to call. “This year, we go into the final race with a good lead [in points],” said Scott Speed, driver of the No. 41 Oberto Circle K Beetle GRC. “My job is to keep us in the most protected position as possible while on track and keep the tires rolling until the checkered flag. If I can do that, we will have us another championship!” Speed is looking to secure his third consecutive Driver’s Championship following his success in 2015 and 2016.

Herndon, VA — Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross teammates Scott Speed and Tanner Foust battled each other all weekend for the top spot on the track and in the championship at the Port of Los Angeles. While Foust took the win at his home track, Speed secured the Driver’s Championship following a second-place finish in the Final. Speed, driver of the No. 41 Oberto Circle K Beetle GRC, drove smart all weekend. After qualifying second on Friday, Speed battled to second- and third-place finishes in early Heat races on Saturday, but won his Semifinal, putting him into a good starting position for the Final. Speed was shuffled to fourth in early laps of the Final, but fought his way back to a second-place finish, safely clinching the Driver’s Championship. “The whole week leading up to the race I was constantly thinking of the what-ifs, all the problems that could happen going in with a solid lead,” said Scott Speed. “My hat is off to everyone—I have the best team out here. I’m so lucky to have them and we have great partners in Volkswagen, Circle K, Oberto, Expedite Home Loans and Rockstar.
