World Premiere of Rallycross-Beetle in Chicago Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross Team presents the GRC Beetle with more than 560 hp and all-wheel-drive Wolfsburg / Chicago, February 6 2014 – Volkswagen Beetle will enter motorsports in the U.S. this summer. At the Chicago Auto Show today, Volkswagen of America presents the Rallycross-Beetle with all-wheel-drive and a TSI engine that delivers more than 560 hp (412 kW). Volkswagen partners with Andretti Autosport to form the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team, running two cars in the series for drivers Tanner Foust and Scott Speed. The team will initially compete this season with modified Polo rally cars, built on the chassis that won the 2013 World Rally Championship for drivers and manufacturers, and will switch during the season to the fearsome GRC Beetle shown in Chicago. This all-wheel-drive rallycross car is the ultimate expression of the third- generation Beetle and will feature more than 560 horsepower from its turbocharged and direct-injection TSI engine. Rallycross is the fastest growing form of motorsports in the U.S., attracting big crowds at venues across the country as well as live TV coverage. Cars are pitted against each other and the clock in a series of heats on a closed course that’s usually a mixture of dirt and pavement, with jumps of 20 meters and more. While anything can happen in Red Bull Global Rallycross racing, Scott Speed and Tanner Foust should be locked in a battle for the Driver’s Championship, with a big lead over the third-place team. Just 30 points separate first-place Speed from Foust, a lead that could be quickly cut-down following Heat wins from Foust and a higher finish in the final. During the first eleven races of the 2017 season, the two drivers have 29 (Speed) and 24 (Foust) Heat wins, three times more than the next driver. With up to 81 points still unclaimed for this weekend, it’s too close to call. “This year, we go into the final race with a good lead [in points],” said Scott Speed, driver of the No. 41 Oberto Circle K Beetle GRC. “My job is to keep us in the most protected position as possible while on track and keep the tires rolling until the checkered flag. If I can do that, we will have us another championship!” Speed is looking to secure his third consecutive Driver’s Championship following his success in 2015 and 2016.

Herndon, VA — Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross teammates Scott Speed and Tanner Foust battled each other all weekend for the top spot on the track and in the championship at the Port of Los Angeles. While Foust took the win at his home track, Speed secured the Driver’s Championship following a second-place finish in the Final. Speed, driver of the No. 41 Oberto Circle K Beetle GRC, drove smart all weekend. After qualifying second on Friday, Speed battled to second- and third-place finishes in early Heat races on Saturday, but won his Semifinal, putting him into a good starting position for the Final. Speed was shuffled to fourth in early laps of the Final, but fought his way back to a second-place finish, safely clinching the Driver’s Championship. “The whole week leading up to the race I was constantly thinking of the what-ifs, all the problems that could happen going in with a solid lead,” said Scott Speed. “My hat is off to everyone—I have the best team out here.
